Banksy prints, by Howard Johnson on Nov 6, 2014 23:18:09 GMT 1, Banksy on the other hand seems to have produced an output that is calculated specifically to the investment community. The fact that he only signed a portion of his print runs and sold them at a higher price comes off as seriously pretentious. Thank you, I needed that laugh. 'seriously pretentious'?, (im laughing again), you should run that by his PR agent / Cleaner / Chauffeur / Butler.................... I'm admittedly new to the Banksy game and naive about the market in general, but I think this is a fair critique of print releases. I can't think of any modern artist that does not sign their work, especially at the price point of Banksy prints. A lot of his work is a direct critique on greed and capitalism, and to then turn around and create a portfolio of work that can only be obtained by the very wealthy is inherently oxymoronic. I get it, not everyone can own a Banksy print, and he should benefit finically from his success.
Like I said, I'm new to the Banksy game, and I realize that my opinion may be way off base.

But they were dirt cheap when they were first released.

Maybe a good time to have that POW old price list out again, and also a reminder of how long they stayed on sale for

Banksy prints, by Red Barron on Nov 7, 2014 0:54:24 GMT 1, When people come here they are either too pissed or too old to notice anything. Friends are nice, I have four.
Do people really have four friends? I thought the max allowed for admittance to this forum was two and that included our favorite print that we talk too! :-)
Per Banksy, I suggest people don't over think things. He is an iconic artist who has created amazing STREET pieces that convey powerful messages from a disenfranchised gen xer in simple fashion. The humor and his unique way of criticizing hypocracy is what I enjoy most. Yes, along the way he has issued prints for fans....some signed, some not. They were indeed cheap on release. Prices have risen because people like myself missed those early days but still want their favorite one (or more) on their wall. Personally I only like about half of his prints and would never buy something for the name alone.
Speculators are drawn to anything that is quickly going up (tulips anyone) but real investors couldn't be bothered with such low dollar values unless we are talking canvases and OG. However, I do not believe for a second that Banksy sits in a dark room with a world map planning how he can get unsigned print prices to go higher. I suspect he does care a great deal more about remaining legitimate, getting his message out and probably a tad about his legacy as he approaches/hits 40...by the way, do we get to have a birthday party for him?
