Banksy prints, by nathzz on Nov 4, 2014 22:55:01 GMT 1, A couple of years ago I was in the market for a banksy unsigned. I can remember viewing a j&j for £1150. Now, 2 years on I'm seeing prices double even triple that. My question is, is this now the common ground? Or are the prices over inflated by the lack of releases from banksy?

Simple economics really.
In conjunction he is now firmly a worldwide household name who sells well at auction so his pieces sit happily in serious buyers collections.

Banksy prints, by andyroo0312 on Nov 5, 2014 4:37:43 GMT 1, What Dungle said and with B very unlikely to do any more prints the supply is dwindling but the demand is increasing. I am sure there will be dips here and there but I believe that the days of u/s Banksys for under £2.5-£3k are pretty much gone unless it's a mates rates thing, I doubt very much I will ever be able to justify buying another Banksy but I am not complaining.

Banksy prints, by Poster Bob on Nov 5, 2014 11:58:44 GMT 1, Prices have been rising steadily for a year without any sign that I can see of them slowing down. I've seen a few off auction results here and there but as has been mentioned above, it's supply and demand. I can't see prices increasing continuously at the same rate, but I do expect them to level off soon. Then they won't increase again until Banksy has another major show, outdoor event, etc.

Banksy prints, by johnnyh on Nov 5, 2014 14:10:33 GMT 1, Not sure about the they won't increase suppose the real thing to look at is what would cause them to decease.
They have suffered the recession well..supply unlikely to increase even if he did produce another it could well due to the frenzy cause prices to rise further. His street pieces are attracting global attention and publicity. Every time people take one eg the wall the press quotes it as a Banksy with an estimated worth of....... So there will be variations in pricing but unlikely to crash I reckon

Banksy prints, by Ruggs on Nov 5, 2014 14:59:32 GMT 1, I think the main thing is that 'signed' prints have gone completely out of most peoples affordability, so are resorting to collecting 'unsigned' instead. Example is 'Girl With Red Balloon', signed now realises around the £25k mark and unsigned remarkably around £9k. Because so many are in the market for unsigned these days, prices have been rapidly increasing. That said I know someone who recently acquired a number of unsigned prints, all at very reasonable prices. Supply and demand.

Banksy prints, by Deleted on Nov 5, 2014 15:11:50 GMT 1, Well Banksy is hot stuff and still generates media attention whenever he makes a pic on a wall.
So as long as the media is interested I doubt his print prices will fall.
How much they will rise depends on if they are sold privately or at auction and where.
It won't hurt the market if he made new print releases.
Maybe he doesnt like that people have bought them and made the big profits not him.
It does look like everyone but Banksy is making the profit.
Posters now being sold by galleries
Whatever next I Wonder?

Banksy prints, by johnnyh on Nov 5, 2014 16:37:34 GMT 1, ...meanwhile, the poor get poorer. Not such a bad thing fella last thing we need is the fuckin poor putting the prices of Banksy's up further......
better they stay poor so that the rest of us can continue to buy prints etc... Don't mind them being the subject of a nice piece but would be a little perturbed if they were buying it. I would hate for example our maid to be wasting time discussing the art on the walls instead of cleaning the floors ...just doesn't seem right!!!

Banksy prints, by Deleted on Nov 5, 2014 19:04:48 GMT 1, ...meanwhile, the poor get poorer. seriously. I mean, I'd do anything to get a Banksy print (or even better, a canvas), but I think I'd feel extremely guilty about spending that much $$ on a piece of paper, while my neighbors starve, and animals are put down because they can't be housed/fed
good thing I don't have that kind of money, otherwise I'd have a hard decision to make

upsets the wife mind getting used to a knew one but this little fella wears his number on his back. Reckon he'll grow to a ripe old age as struggling with prices these days to afford number 11

Banksy prints, by A.R.T. on Nov 5, 2014 19:41:40 GMT 1, As others noted, it the supply and demand factor. After his BOTI show in NYC last year prints were on fire. Still a year after the show people are scooping up any reasonably priced prints that hit the market. With the new HBO doc that is out I assume that it will attract an even wider audience for his prints.

Or would you want to buy the piece you want because it is out of your reach/budget at this time?

Would love more but I just can't afford to blow the amount of cash I would need to get more Banksy prints. Really want a Napalm but cannot find one for reasonable money. I only got into Banksy and urban art a few years ago but I could stretch my finances at the start to afford the signed prints. Now unfortunately I in all honesty would really prefer to buy originals of newer artists.

Banksy prints, by mandingo on Nov 5, 2014 21:43:17 GMT 1, Let's put banksys output into perspective .At the end if the day this guy is our Andy Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein he will be held in the same breath as these guys in the future . Hes only done 50 prints . Warhol had a factory making his prints . Banksy has made probably only about 5 per cent of what Warhol has made and look at his prices . I went to a Salvador Dali exhibition in Prague this year and he had over 1000 different prints each edition size was 750 . These masters mass produced these . If that is it from MrB then his market is tiny . How long will it be before a signed GWB hits 100k . With the rise in prices going up just with the unsigned one alone about 1k in the last six months shows you his prints are on a meteoric rise . Hold on to em . I know I am .
