Work on panel/canvas over work on paper?, by samfrost on Nov 8, 2014 13:16:09 GMT 1, Canvas hands down. Largely depends on the quality of work. You are better off avoiding a few pricey prints and just saving up for a nice canvas.

Work on panel/canvas over work on paper?, by Zippy on Nov 8, 2014 13:19:27 GMT 1, It is all about the image. Go for the piece that will give you pleasure looking at. Go for the piece that makes you smile when you walk past it.
Do not worry about whether it is on paper, canvas or board.
Enjoy the fun of getting your new piece.

Work on panel/canvas over work on paper?, by johnnyh on Nov 8, 2014 15:07:11 GMT 1, Agree with both the comments above. Must say one benefit on canvas is the fact that they do not require the framing costs. An awful lot of money in my view is wasted on framing and glass
So Tis better to save for an original in my view

Work on panel/canvas over work on paper?, by samfrost on Nov 8, 2014 16:24:38 GMT 1, Good comments in the thread so far, especially about the costs of framing and buying the best image that fits your tastes. Works on paper are always more delicate and require special attention when it comes to framing, displaying and storage. Not that canvases are hassle-free, I just would rather have a quality canvas than 5+ prints sitting in the flat file or in a tube for the same cost.

Work on panel/canvas over work on paper?, by Zippy on Nov 8, 2014 16:48:20 GMT 1, My post was not about an original v print but rather about enjoying the 'original' whether executed on paper, canvas, wood or any other medium.
The best piece in my collection is on paper and it supercedes any canvas's i have.

Work on panel/canvas over work on paper?, by Deleted on Nov 8, 2014 20:10:18 GMT 1, Image is indeed everything. The question was never print or original, I'm going for an original. It just about the surface it is painted on and the pros and cons on that matter. Paintings on paper, so not sketches or drawings, seem significantly cheaper than roughly the same work (dimension, artist) on panel and canvas. While a piece of canvas shouldn't really make a huge difference on the total price if you ask me. Also I'm wondering how a piece of paper with acrylic/spraypaint/oilstick will hold up through the years.. Museums and institutions have lots of oils on paper that were later mounted glued onto canvas and many by big names too.

Work on panel/canvas over work on paper?, by Quinnster on Nov 8, 2014 20:10:33 GMT 1, I could not afford much from any artists I like on canvas.
Just but what you love and don't spend too much.
