WHO IS 2257 ? ? ?, by hollywouldifhecoul on Jan 29, 2008 6:16:41 GMT 1, I've been asking around, but to no avail. Posting this in as many boards as I can.
I'm looking for work done by artist that goes by the name 2257. I saw a piece in Chicago in the John Hancock Building. It was being delivered to a resident that lived there. They were unwrapping it from a box in the lobby. The artist was 2257. No one in the lobby knew anything as they were just a delivery service.
About a year later, I saw a smaller painting done by 2257 in a interior design store in San Fran. I asked the girl behind the counter if she knew anything about the piece. She didn't. So, I called the owner and asked where he got it. He said he got it while on a trip to Japan. But from what I gather, the artist is not Japanese. At least his style does not point to anything Japanese. If that actually means anything. The owner of the shop said he knew nothing about the artist but that he liked the painting so he bought it from a shop in the Ginza District.
Figured I ask you all since you obviously know the market. Have you heard of 2257 or know where I can find his work?

It is stamped "2900" and dated 6.30.1977. I have been unable to find out anything about it whatsoever. I'll see if I can post an image.

I have a street piece at home with a similar number which is the call sign for a lunatic on the loose of something like that. I'm away from home at the moment so cant check the number until Saturday

Hey Craig. I'll have to find out if it is a some kind of police code. When I googled "2257" a grip of info came up about the pornography laws in the US. Go figure. The piece I saw in San Fran was a 3-color painting of 2 women having a go. However, the piece in Chicago was a blue ink (what it looked like) drawing of a man just standing. The piece was about 36" in height, and about 14" in width. It was on a white background and was framed in a white high gloss frame. Looked stellar!
I've got no photos. I did take a pic with my phone. But that was 2 years ago. I've lost the image since then.
OK . . .so no definitive "Hey, I have a piece for sale." But interesting to say the least.

It had been thrown away and was in a frame that was falling apart and the glass was smashed. If anyone has any clues then feel free to share them with me as I have no idea who it's by or what it is.
