Stik... On a Budget, by glutenberg on Nov 19, 2014 18:12:43 GMT 1, Just reading in 'Art for Sale' of 4 x Stik PP's for sale at ยฃ850 each. Great if you have the money.... but this inspired me to share my flip-side..... Stik on a budget.
Nothing ground-breaking, I'm sure most people have seen these before - having been given out free in Big Issue magazines in the UK around 6 months ago, though maybe some of you outside of the UK haven't seen them.Yes there were 75,000 of them, and yes they each have 2 folds going across them (I did my best to minimise these by ironing them).... and yes, these are the unsigned versions.
BUT.... on the flip side, the posters (all recently from eBay) and the ยฃ8 Ikea frames (made for the job?!!) came in at around ยฃ100.... and I have had just as many comments on these from friends as I have on more expensive prints.
I guess if you managed to get these in the mags at the time, you could have done the above for about ยฃ20! Though still happy enough with what I paid. Still available on eBay too in the above colours.....

Yeah - there was a thread showing some framing on these a while back, and someone had similar framing. This is 4-up floated across a black mat, with another white mat, and a simple black contemporary molding. maybe $80? it's a cool piece, and my 2 yr old does the "liberty" pose and yells "GUYS" everytime we go by it. I love art. |

I find this quite interesting aa. So, is it better to pay a fortune to frame an expensive work rather than place it in an adequate, cheaper frame? Its easy to get carried away when framing an expensive piece of art. As long as the frame suits and the right conservation materials are used (if at all necessary, perhaps just pay for conservation mounting board) does it matter how much it costs? I'm not being argumentative, I'm just exploring the relationship between percieved value of the works and the frame used.
