Martin Whatson "Climber" Limited Edition Hand-Painted Screen, by Wearology on Nov 21, 2014 12:58:00 GMT 1, I am posting as a buyer & seller of art work on our forum and not as an assistant moderator. I have personally experienced some issues with newbie forum members that have bought and sold art in the past 6 months. It is my opinion that there should not be a set rule by ProBoards on how many posts a member should have before they can make a transaction rather each individual forum member should have their own criteria on whether to buy or sell something to a person with a low amount of posts or bad reputation. I now click on their name & go to their most recent posts and see if they actually contribute to our community or are they just here to use us as a niche EBAY. Maybe if a plebeian wants to sell or buy something on here they can reference their expressobeans or EBAY rating if they have one as a reference. With the high prices of art over the past few years we must really unite as a forum to weed out the bad apples so another forum member doesn't get burned like I did just a few ago. I just checked the buyers recent posts and he never came back on the forum since he dogged me on a buy, I am not surprised at all - sometimes you get a bad feeling from the start and you should trust your instincts.

Defo agree there needs to be something done on the sale threads. Multiple post on the same page from one star members. or people with almost no post anywhere else. Lets set it to 3 or 4 stars and above.......( is say 3 or 4 because I am currently 3 but would consider 4 as a level where almost no time waster would ever take the time to get to.) can there not be a protocol on the start a sales thread button. or can what a moderator deem as an active forum member be allowed to bump the thread. I think that does happen maybe im not there yet... That will help weed out a little...... All in all though it is all about the relationship and reputation so really even just setting it to 2 start might help out a ton!

Martin Whatson "Climber" Limited Edition Hand-Painted Screen, by Matt on Nov 21, 2014 14:07:52 GMT 1, I hate flippers, but they are part of the game. Personally I choose to ignore them, I'm not paying outrageous prices for a print when I miss out. I'd will happily not own a golden Aladdin Sane rather than pay 2500 for one.
In the end there are a lot of galleries playing the same game; hiking the prices of their prints when they see people buying, holding back pieces to better profit, buying their own artists etc etc...but no one complains. It is part of the game
Most forums impose a number of posts before being able to sell, but honestly it only delays the problem somewhat because anyone can post random stuff and grow their count until they access the sales, and start flipping et they are a flipper.
Limiting the sales to 3-4 star members ? That kind of limits the interest of the forum for a lot of people, including me, the vast majority of which are not flippers. I have bought recent low edition pieces here at cost from 1 star members, 2 in the last few weeksโฆwould be a shame to see that disappear
I find it easier to just ignore flippers, and give normal folks a chance
Just my 2c...

I think that does happen maybe im not there yet... That will help weed out a little...... All in all though it is all about the relationship and reputation so really even just setting it to 2 start might help out a ton! Coming from a different angle and as a new one star only member here. There seems to be a view that more is more. I'd value quality over quantity. For instance there are some members here who have amassed 1,500 posts in six months. For all those that complain about newbies selling there are equally those who are looking to secure a deal with those people. If a newbie posted and was selling legitimate prints cheaply - I am not sure people would be stopping to ask for an introduction. His/her inbox would be full.
I've also noticed that posting in the art wanted section immediately after missing out on a drop brings out the big hitters. I don't recall anybody with one star trying to flip me a print straight after a drop but on numerous occasions multi-starred forum members have offered me prints at vastly inflated prices sometimes within an hour of the print being sold out. The world of the inbox is a murky one. Am I complaining? No. I choose to deal with who I want to deal with and take my business where I want to go and let others conduct theirs freely.
It is plain to see on this forum that it is riddled with double standards in terms of who can sell what and when and who is a flipper and who gets called out for being a flipper.
I too do my homework on members before I buy and go back as far as I can. It's amazing what you can discover. It's funny to see the cover stories of members unravel over time. Members who were once "naive" newbies looking for Banksy prints, within a year become 3/4 star general "stalwarts" and trusted members of the forum!
It seems everybody wants a piece of the action, but some are more subtle than others.

See, the thing with comments like that is, you can't figure out if you're digging me for not having enough posts or your suggesting I'm just trying to get them up!
Kind of a lose/lose situation for anyone questioning the high star members mentality I guess!
Anyway, enough negativity, does anyone know anything about Kaws?
Been offered the whole SpongeBob set and wanted an idea of the right price.
And I'm not asking what they are up for on eBay either.
How much were the prints originally?

Just a bit of banter mate.
I don't know enough about kaws to advise on price, but loads on here do. Start a thread in the urban art section for price advise and you'll get the help!

Martin Whatson "Climber" Limited Edition Hand-Painted Screen, by Deleted on Nov 21, 2014 22:56:04 GMT 1, Constantly moaning about "FLIPPERS" isn't input you wally...it's simply annoying and makes you laugh look jealous and like you enjoy blocking deals! I've been collecting for 15 yours and never once sold a single piece I've bought but it does get to a point where you either buy something and never get round to framing it or simply don't like it once you've lived with it! For me, I've simply grown out of prints and only collect original works but as I've been in the game so long I still keep my ear to the ground with available work and get offered a great deal of stuff all of the time! Now I have kids I too wish to sell bits I just have lying around...be it old work or a print that is a week old! And yes, where possible I would like to make a turn on my original investment! What's wrong with that? Am I now expected to sell an old banksy print I bought for ยฃ50, back in the day, for the same price now? No! If the work is worth having and you like it and others like it then it will always demand a premium, simple! This thread clearly states FOR SALE therefore if you aren't intetested in purchasing anything then why do you feel the need to ruin someone else's sale? There are plenty of other threads to talk on and moan all you like! Having more than 1 star next to your name doesn't give you the right to run around policing the art world! well said

Martin Whatson "Climber" Limited Edition Hand-Painted Screen, by Deleted on Nov 21, 2014 23:02:58 GMT 1, Have you actually read what I just wrote or have you just skimmed it picked out the points that support your jealous idealism? Clearly I am trying to sell stuff now AFTER 15 YEARS OF COLLECTING AND NOW HAVING KIDS! No one cares why you're selling. The fact is, if you only come here to sell and never add anything of value to the forum, you can expect that people won't be pleased. This isn't an auction house, it's a forum that has a art for sale section - there's a big difference. Surely selling something one of you may like and enjoy owning is adding something of value to this forum?
Maybe time to view in a less negative light ? All there is to read on here is arguments, I was under the impression its a place to talk about art, learn about art and buy and sell it, if you don't like the price or the print then move on, surely the same conversation is now getting boring ?
