Ridiculous Amazon Black Friday Deal!, by Happy Shopper on Nov 24, 2014 14:11:01 GMT 1, That Banksy statement is so ridiculous, He sold out long ago. It's an interesting point. I wonder if you can explain why you think he's sold out? No gallery shows. Money from prints usually goes to charities. His work sells for vast amounts through auctions (not his doing), and so he finds ways to get his art into the right hands (people not buying just to flip). Puts on free exhibitions and stunts where very little is for sale. Doesn't sell merchandise or cash in with partnerships or collaborations.

You can either do your thing on the street as an artist where its seen by a relatively small number of people and work a job you likely hate to pay the bills or do your art on the street and sell work commercially which will be seen and appreciated by huge audience and will direct attention to your street work, get up everyday doing what you love for a living and get paid for it....its a no brainer in my eyes.

Ridiculous Amazon Black Friday Deal!, by eschiff on Nov 24, 2014 15:15:59 GMT 1, I don't understand the term 'sell out' at all.
How can someone blame another person for making a living? Why would they resent that? Using the term seems to place some shaky moral code onto another person. What if Banksy does a Toyota advertisement? Who cares. Maybe he got divorced and needs to pay alimony. Maybe he wants to buy a new car. Maybe he wants to provide for his grandkids uni fund.

... Lives on the street and is penny less. Doesn't make anything from his work ever. Only allowed into celebrity's homes to use the bathroom and make the occasional stencil. Even his films are made for free and given away in subways. Which is also the place you NEVER see an advert for them. Poor guy lives in squalor using his very last dollars to hide his identity by over paying a PR company. So sad

Ridiculous Amazon Black Friday Deal!, by Deleted on Nov 24, 2014 17:38:47 GMT 1, My original post - from which this discussion has grown - was originally intended as an aside against the constant bombardment of 'advertising' and opportunities to seperate us from our money that are becoming increasingly invasive. I'm not having a go at the original poster as I'm sure many of us on here could benefit from these deals. But what will happen is that greed will take over across the country and there will be a mad rush by people attempting to secure 'bargains' that they really don't need. The relentless desire to consume plastic crap most of us don't need, and won't enhance our lives.
Back to its relevance to Banksy.......
