If only 5 sold that shouldn't affect your desire for the piece or your feelings about already buying one. I'm truly amazed they are selling at all at that price. If this piece is bought for anything more than colors on the wall you are flushing the money down the toilet.
This actually isn't totally correct. A person's desire for something is one factor in the equation that forms their willingness to pay. If none of them sold, one's willingness to pay would most likely go down. So while my desire for the piece remains the same, my willingness to pay changes. This is why if it said there was only one print left, it would probably sell instantly, because someone who's on the fence might increase their willingness to pay based on the new information they have.
e.g. My desire for milk is equal when I run out, but I pay more at the gas station across the street than the grocery store five miles away because of convenience.

Maya Hayuk πΊπΈ Street Art β’ New Release β’ Art For Sale , by nighthawk on Jun 4, 2015 19:11:12 GMT 1, This will sell out, it's just a matter of when. And when it does, people will attempt to re-sell it at a markup. This shouldn't shock anyone here. I think it's also safe to say that the majority of Maya's fans/clients probably don't hang out here, so yes, obviously galleries will snatch these up, and then sell them at "said marked-up price" to "said fan-base".
Everyone made a big stink about Multiverses 2 being $1k + shipping (which worked out to close to $1100). That was a run of 30+ and they refunded quite a few if I remeber correctly. This one is $1425 shipped (to the USA), so I'm guessing it's gone soon

Maya Hayuk πΊπΈ Street Art β’ New Release β’ Art For Sale , by FΠ― on Jun 4, 2015 19:30:35 GMT 1, It's a shame their carting system won't let you check the inventory. But that's the point, I suppose. If only 5 sold that shouldn't affect your desire for the piece or your feelings about already buying one. I'm truly amazed they are selling at all at that price. If this piece is bought for anything more than colors on the wall you are flushing the money down the toilet. Those interested in it being popular are only in it for one thing.

Maya Hayuk πΊπΈ Street Art β’ New Release β’ Art For Sale , by WOOF on Jun 4, 2015 19:36:25 GMT 1, You guys are funny, actively hoping an artist's release is a failure. What do any of you gain from that? I think the same can be said from people who already own Maya prints wanting to see it succeed. That they want to see this sell well because they think it might mean their print will continute to gain value That didn't answer my question at all, so i'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you. The question was what do people have to gain by Maya failing? I pity the people that can't make their own shit, and so they hate on others. At least she isn't trying to rip off other artists work...

You guys seem to be mixing up one's desire for something with one's willingness to pay for it. Clean water is pretty darn popular, and even if it somehow wasn't, I would still pay a fortune for it, but my willingness to pay is based on the market price which is based on a number of factors, including others' willingness to pay. If you were willing to pay the gallery's price, but it was selling on eBay for $5, you wouldn't pay $1,500 for it. And since whether or not it sells out will eventually affect its secondary market value, then you do care how many sell. Or money and value doesn't matter to you. Which is possible as well. Bill Gates certainly doesn't care how much this cost or whether or not it sells out, even at 1,000 times the price.

Maya Hayuk πΊπΈ Street Art β’ New Release β’ Art For Sale , by badbay on Jun 4, 2015 22:48:28 GMT 1, I have been waiting for a Maya for a while now but this one doesn't do it for me it just seems a little too busy compared to some other of her works. I prefer the brighter cleaner lines.
I'm all for pricing something at market value. I would much rather the money went to the artist than the flippers. When something is priced too low it sells out immediately and half of them end up on the secondary market. It also creates a distorted picture if an artists popularity. It looks like they have got it wrong though this time the price is too high.
I would like to see prints with coas that can't be transferred for x months/years to deter flipping

Maya Hayuk πΊπΈ Street Art β’ New Release β’ Art For Sale , by natstan on Jun 5, 2015 1:08:37 GMT 1, With the greed showcased by Maya and co., I can certainly see why people are routing for a flop. Someone needs to have their enormous head popped.
It's funny you should say that. I had wanted to use that very word greed but stayed on the sideline, ha. While I am not sure if the pricing is determined by MH herself, my earlier email interactions with her, as I mentioned here, have been less than pleasant. 'Enormous head' seems to describe that pretty well - she did give me that impression (now, this is just my own opinion).
I do like some of her works but I do not agree with what she said to me and how she acts during that dealing. When promises made were not kept, it's very hard not to get upset. And it's very hard to remain a supporter after that. No go for this one whatever the price is.

So people are hating because they want to be able to afford the next release? That seems a bit weird.
Artists get successful sometimes. And sometimes that means their prices go up. To actively shit on someone's newest work just to try and stop that is illogical. If you like her work enough to buy some of it, you should be happy for her that she's become bigger. And happy she releases prints at all, since she's under no obligation to do so - I know I am.

Maya Hayuk πΊπΈ Street Art β’ New Release β’ Art For Sale , by nighthawk on Jun 5, 2015 1:42:47 GMT 1, The thread that keeps on giving!
Yeah, I lol'ed at a few comments in here as well. My goodness, we're back to entitlement issues of "the collector" again. I have dealt with Maya on a personal level as well, and rest assured she has been nothing short of gracious and lovely. Maybe you caught her on a bad day?
Echoing previous sentiments, I also feel lucky to have an opportunity to pick up fantastic pieces of art period. If you don't like it, it's not your thing, move along. Simple as that.
But again, an OG this size would easily go for $9K. Everyone ranted at the MV2 being $1K, and we see where they've landed. So a print for $1425 shipped isn't "that" bad of a deal. If you like Maya's work, and want to own something big, this is your best bet. Yes, she's pricey, but this print is also pretty special and unique. I'd also bet that she (and her team) thought this out, and justified the price tag accordingly.
At the end of the day, I think she's pissed off the flippers the most
