Maya Hayuk πΊπΈ Street Art β’ New Release β’ Art For Sale , by South Bound on Jun 5, 2015 2:12:46 GMT 1, Multiverses 2 was an edition of 30 for 1k that is significantly different then an edition of 99 for $1400. This is also very similar to the same X pattern she has been beating to death these days and is far from special or unique.

Maya Hayuk πΊπΈ Street Art β’ New Release β’ Art For Sale , by natstan on Jun 5, 2015 2:21:56 GMT 1, The thread that keeps on giving! Yeah, I lol'ed at a few comments in here as well. My goodness, we're back to entitlement issues of "the collector" again. I have dealt with Maya on a personal level as well, and rest assured she has been nothing short of gracious and lovely. Maybe you caught her on a bad day? Echoing previous sentiments, I also feel lucky to have an opportunity to pick up fantastic pieces of art period. If you don't like it, it's not your thing, move along. Simple as that. But again, an OG this size would easily go for $9K. Everyone ranted at the MV2 being $1K, and we see where they've landed. So a print for $1425 shipped isn't "that" bad of a deal. If you like Maya's work, and want to own something big, this is your best bet. Yes, she's pricey, but this print is also pretty special and unique. I'd also bet that she (and her team) thought this out, and justified the price tag accordingly. At the end of the day, I think she's pissed off the flippers the most Gracious and lovely? Yes, initially. Till push comes to shove.

Even he has his critics. How about getting MH to explain what messages she is trying to bring across in her works? So just enjoy them for what they are (if u like them) and don't over-analyse.

Unless of course you don't want to remain ignorant and stupid about it. In which case, sit down and look at them very closely, compare them to other works in her field and have a close look at abstraction, graffiti, expressionism and abstract expressionism, go through her bio and her history of painting, study her career, see where she's coming from, read her interviews, find out her inspirations. Analyse everything about it. Then come back to it, have another look. See if it's still "just X's with drips". If it is, move on. I guarantee it isn't, but if it is, you'll have learned a whole lot about this thing called art which you can apply to the next thing that takes your eye. You'll develop a lot of passion and insight and knowledge, you'll still be into art a long time after the "just X's with drips" brigade have moved onto the next thing.
peace

Maya Hayuk πΊπΈ Street Art β’ New Release β’ Art For Sale , by trapnel1 on Jun 5, 2015 8:45:15 GMT 1, I'm fairly neutral about Maya, but I saw the Martin Creed show at the Southbank last year - thought it was fantastic.
Martin Creed at the Southbank
Huge variety of work extending across different media, with a clear theme. Not an X in sight that I can remember and the comparison has never occurred to me before. Not that I would see a problem if there were some similarities, deliberate or by coincidence. But for anyone who is not familiar with Creed, he's a very interesting character.

I like to see artists be able to make a living off their work but maybe some of her fans want to see it fail, hoping that means her next print will go back down to a more affordable price so they can get one next time
Personally, I think her work is rubbish and much overrated, but not everyone has to like the same things and I wish her success

Are you her husband or something? You seem much to interested in defending her. Is it because you've spent a lot on her work and intend to try to keep the value up so you can make a profit when you sell them in six months (like you did with Sandra Chevrier)? People don't have to like the same things as every one else so I don't understand the hostility on both sides of the argument
