Do you install I tunes on the NAS drive and add sync from your laptop/PC?

Sonos help, by omeel on Nov 29, 2014 17:07:40 GMT 1, I've left iTunes on the Mac, but moved all the music to the NAS. You can then point iTunes to build the music library from the NAS.
That way you can share the music via the NAS with anything on your network including Sonos. Also means all you music is backed up as the NAS has RAID capability.
The Synology NAS systems also come with iTunes server software installed but I never saw the point in using it.

Just doing my research but hoping to get one soon...
I have only heard good things about them. The wife wanted a Bose wave but think this is a better system...

Sonos help, by Warm Gun on Nov 29, 2014 17:58:07 GMT 1, I done a lot of research too, the sonos seems to edge everything in that particular price range. Having a play with a Bose and a Sonos in the shop was enough to convince me.

Sonos help, by jlf on Nov 29, 2014 20:02:14 GMT 1, I've got 3 play 3's dotted about the house and I haven't had any problems with them. When I get my new house thinking about getting a either a play1 (apparently they are humidity resistant) or a connect and putting speakers in the roof for the bathroom.
I also use a Synology NAS, I've never used the itunes server software either on it and just stream off the drives, used to use it with a WD-NAS (that died of old age) which worked fine as well.
Think the best thing about the sonos stuff is the way it just works properly and easily. Plus the sound quality is good

LOL.I was reading it, thinking , do I need this in my life? and if I do, what does it all mean You really do need one in your life, but never try to record all your records as mp3s its the most time consuming job ever. I did about 150 of my 2000 records and gave up, luckily I have kept my decks

Sonos help, by jlf on Nov 30, 2014 22:50:43 GMT 1, they are basically a fancy speaker that you connect to you wifi and control via your phone as a fancy remote control and you can play any mp3 of it, a nas (a hard drive that is plugged into your router and always on), a computer or the internet.
The best thing about them is they are just really easy to use and flexible, but are quite expensive when compared to just getting a normal stereo

Speakers I think. But I've already got some. They came with the hifi.
