I went and got an Eine instead which is now on my wall in my bathroom. I couldn't stop laughing though when I saw the Blake print though.

Seriously? What hype? Where? I've probably commented on most threads about Borondo. But that's because I like his work very much. If there was a Sandra C thread, I've no doubt you would comment on it because you like her work. But I can't see anyone hyping borondo's work. Just people enjoying it. I've not seen anyone taking about values, investment, returns etc.

I honestly think they look great. They are no doubt no where near as good as the large pieces, but I expect that they will be affordable. If so, I think it's great that small originals are available for those that can't afford big originals.

I have to admit to being completely lost in understanding what it is about this guy that others are so keen on.

Gonzalo Borondo πͺπ¦ Spanish Glass Artist β’ Street Art, by sgolby on Feb 1, 2015 0:55:10 GMT 1, For me, a large part of it is the style. There is something in it's decrepit beauty that captures me.
I loved Identity. The way he conveyed an idea, at least to my interpretation, of identity not being about who we are but how we present ourselves, was brilliant.
I just dig the guys work.

I just don't see how anyone would ever buy that unless they knew it was made by Borondo. And that says something.
I can see maybe one or two of them being decent; the rest are honestly surprisingly terrible in my opinion. But to each his/her own.

I'll queue for the Fake print but hanging about for hours on end to receive a crappy portrait is not my idea of fun even if it is potentially worth a bob or two !!

I adore his street work esp the Narcissus piece and look forward to seeing how his work will be expressed in a formal setting.

Gonzalo Borondo πͺπ¦ Spanish Glass Artist β’ Street Art, by Mirus Gallery Poesia on Feb 1, 2015 2:57:14 GMT 1, Im also curious to see the Price List to see where his prices might be headed. I love the work of Borondo for many different reasons but no artist is immune to criticism and those that bring some valid arguments more power to you. I can say his larger work was already pretty pricy before this show.
I look for an artist from our genre of Urban/street/graffiti art to have a continuing relationship with the urban environment, meaning they still get out and paint walls paid or unpaid. Its just a personal preference I like to see, but not every artist still has the time to do this so. Its great to see Borondo put in the same amount of work on the streets as he does in the studio. That being said when judging his work you have to look at what he is trying to accomplish or if he is concerned with one thing over the other, meaning what is the message? For this show we have a statement, but from my experience with his art and seeing it in person you have to look past how rough his work is for a second. It's intentionally this way not because he cant gesso a proper panel or afford a canvas, he works with the material at hand. The same material he would use in an urban setting. This makes the work seem cheap to the feel and look at times, just white buff with scratch marks but Its authentic in a way many artists lose track of when working in the studio. In contemporary art most painters choose symbolic elements to use in their medium when painting, to capture a deeper dialogue than the aesthetic portion of their work. I see something similar in his work.
Yes this style has been around many times over with painters that work figuratively yet you wont be able to name an artist who uses this style in the same manner as him. Its a figure, its a palette commonly used amongst figure painters of course its going to be similar. What is not similar is the sublime nature of his work, the unique feeling you get from his subject matter. Borondo has built and is continuing to work on a deeper visual language. Many who compare his style to 20 other figure painters are missing this portion I believe. That feeling and rawness of the urban environment, the dirt on the walls the scratches deep into the walls he has painted for the past couple of years. I see many correlations in his work aesthetically that are traces even if subconscious of conceptual elements of the street. I cant say what price tag to put on his work or if will rise in value, but I can give you the reasons why I appreciate it and have been lucky enough to work with him.
To those that dont see what I see great, Im not hear to hype anything just maybe give some insight from my perspective.

Stop being a dick trying to impress your buddy, fr. It's not funny and you look like a tool. I'm sorry to hear that, and very glad that she is apparently no longer blind. I'm not sure it's fair to take personal offense to abstract jokes made on internet forums to the point of counterattacks. I would hope that blind persons can enjoy blind jokes in the same way that a person like myself can enjoy jokes made at the expense of my ethnicity/background/disability/etc. especially when they are not particularly spiteful. Kind of shows that you respect yourself despite being in that position, and still consider yourself a person.
And I'd never do anything for FR, he knows that.
