Another New Member Introduction, by Oski on Dec 17, 2014 20:39:54 GMT 1, After 2 weeks of waiting, finally had my account cleared by the mods today with probably a big backlog of others. Meanwhile I've enjoyed reading the various threads and soaking in all the information from this great community.
My interest in street/urban art was forged in NYC back in the 90s when I first moved here. At the time there was this burgeoning movement of street art that was ubiquitous downtown. Plenty of works from Shep Fairey, WK interact, and some Banksy. I've been following their work since and have been fortunate to have acquired some pieces from them and other artists.
I look forward to being able to interact and contribute to the forums, and see street/urban art continue to evolve. Cheers.

I'm going to break the streak of new members immediately posting something FS and wait until at least my 10th post Incidentally, I think "cheap Banksy" is an oxymoron.

Another New Member Introduction, by Oski on Dec 17, 2014 21:35:36 GMT 1, ... love a bit of wk not mentioned too much on here ...and welcome to the board ... Thanks Dappy! In the streets of SoHo back in the 90s, WK had some of the biggest and most prominent pieces. Highly kinetic work that was contextual and brought about a sense of interaction (hence the name) with the passerby. It would have seem at the time he was going to be bigger than Shep Fairey and Banksy.
WK's 25-year retrospective at Jonathan LeVine Gallery last year was a tour de force of art/sculpture/installation. It was massive and impressive, best show I've ever seen and could have easily been an exhibition at a museum. To top it off, he's quite the nice fellow too and helped Faile get their start pasting in NYC.

Yup, still in NYC. There are great artists in the States, but street/urban art appear to be bigger in the UK. Was in Brick Lane/Shorditch last month and saw tons of great work on the streets. Much deeper base of collectors and galleries catering to this genre as well. Cheers mate.
