No regrets for police officer who wants to whitewash Banksy, by Deleted on Dec 18, 2014 23:34:59 GMT 1, I would have wound him up if I was there.
He seems to be trying to rope graffiti artists in with vandals and yobs who break wing mirrors off cars etc.
Also there is no chance him ever catching or prosecuting Banksy as no property owner will make a complaint against Banksy or any other half decent street art I hope for that matter.
He seems corporate too in that he is working for the railway companies etc which is fair enough.
He also says basically if any graffiti artist wants to get caught that he has access to their emails and probably gets info from people who know the artist.
Sweeney tactics
I bet he reads this forum too.

No regrets for police officer who wants to whitewash Banksy, by balibob on Dec 19, 2014 11:08:34 GMT 1, I haven't got a problem with the police targeting those individuals who just like to see their name or tag on as many buildings as possible, but I would hate to think that those artists who are producing absolutely stunning art on buildings around the country are getting actively pursued. Probably the wrong place to air my views on taggers, so please fire away if you feel the need.

No regrets for police officer who wants to whitewash Banksy, by met on Dec 19, 2014 21:43:12 GMT 1,
Differences of opinion aside, I have great admiration for people like Colin Saysell. They may be the enemy, but they believe in something and have the courage to stand by their convictions — including in largely hostile environments like the Graffiti Sessions event earlier this month. They do their jobs well, with passion (if not obsession), diligence and dogged determination.
Saysell comes across as the type of character Tommy Lee Jones might play. I suspect his mindset is not that dissimilar to many of the writers he relentlessly pursues.
The same may be the case with Fred Radtke (a.k.a. the Grey Ghost) in New Orleans and Joe Connolly (a.k.a. the Graffiti Guerrilla) in Los Angeles. A good reminder to re-watch Vigilante Vigilante.
And where would graffiti be without worthy adversaries? Where would the real fun be? Those who argue it's just a form of creative expression are either a bit clueless or disingenuous.

Probably the wrong place to air my views on taggers, so please fire away if you feel the need. I hope this just comes across as another perspective; I definitely don't mean it to sound like I'm firing into anyone. I think it's important to remember that street art was born out of graffiti and that the foundation of graffiti is tagging. Without the likes of Cornbread and Taki 183 tagging Philadelphia and New York we probably wouldn't have Os Gemeos and Etam Cru painting beautiful buildings now.
Also, the vast majority of the street artists now painting large scale murals on buildings will have started out tagging and many still do tag. So if the police are actively pursuing people for tagging, by default, they will be pursuing many of the people who paint murals. Personally, I love a tag that's got style but I appreciate I'm probably in the minority here. How can you not love those C'est Bon or Grease tags?

Not just admiration, "great admiration"
Because he stands by his convictions? I'm sure there are many people on this planet do that who equally deserve your undying admiration. Maybe Ai Weiwei, Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning..etc...

Colin Saysell

No regrets for police officer who wants to whitewash Banksy, by dashboll on Dec 20, 2014 9:08:20 GMT 1, If the world lived in peace and harmony with no injustice then there would be no police but also nothing to stand up to or against, no need for graffiti, no need for a channel to vent against the system, which I'm guessing would mean no tagging and no street art. The world needs to be a bit fucked up for it to work and to see creativity that would not otherwise be expressed, all walking round like robots

I bet he's a fan of Minder too.

No regrets for police officer who wants to whitewash Banksy, by Deleted on Dec 20, 2014 16:33:41 GMT 1, Saysell needs to show proof of any outstanding crimes committed by Banksy.
Or it looks like he is using Banksy to promote himself.
As for graffiti being a Gateway to criminality, some would say joining the met can be a Gateway to criminality too.
In other words it's bollocks and I doubt saysell or his buddies would be remotely interested in investigating if someones car got keyed or even if they were burgled or had their car stolen.

i'm not at all against illegal graffiti at all.
It's a good thing in some places and I don't find it any more offensive than someone smoking a cigarette upwind and good for protest and making a statement whether artistic political or closing down sale.
I don't think people should go to prison for it and if a property owner or an authority is against it.
Surely it's better if anyone is done for it for the judge to order they clean the graffiti off themselves instead of sending them to prison.
I was just wondering though if some taggers would be offended if someone tagged their property or car etc?

but not one tag sprayed on any cars so that is positive
