If you had a Banksy original to sell, would you..., by nacional on Dec 21, 2014 20:26:49 GMT 1, ....put it with a gallery (if so...which one)...an auction site (which one)...or go for a private sale??
I am looking to max my return...know the %'s that the first 2 options carry...just looking for some pragmatic advice..
And just so ya know..it's my Paranoid Pics that I floated out a while ago but got cold feet about..
Anyone an idea re price...95k sterling??

Negotiable percentages are usually an option when putting a high interest item in their auction. Wouls avoid auction sites like the plague for something like an original, as for a gallery... Would have to be a good one. Thought about approaching laz? See what they can do? Might be on comission, but folk have been known to pay a premium to buy from a recognised source. |

on the other hand ... i'd suggest the temporary madness which visits you on occasion ( shall i / shall i not..) to be indicative of .... something akin to acute seasonitis .. it'll pass and you'll be right as rain .. after christmas.
no doubt you've had a few emails by now...(making you think you're ok ... spondoolics.. in the air... perhaps ) ..but i'll remind you.. via this thread.. that .. your madness will pass.... (we hope..  )

The galleries no doubt will agree for less, especially if it's shown there as it's a draw for customers. And as mouser said buying from a reputable gallery may lead to an elevated price.

decent name galleries like Laz / andipida, Castle etc will give you a feel. Auction Houses Bonhams or Christies.
After all that you can then also look at the private sale option with a better idea of what to ask for. if you want to go that route.

As far as how to go about it, it's been a while since I've sold anything for ยฃ100k+. And that involved a mortgage. So I'd go with whatever someone else said.

I would sell it if it was authenticated.
If it wasn't authenticated I would just forget I had it.
If it was an original sprayed on an old bit of plywood or car door etc or cow.
I would wait for the cow to die then taxidermy it with the art on the cow and offer it to Bank Bobber or that Twizzler bloke in Miami, with dried cow pancakes as proof of authneticity cos one would have Banksy's footprint in it at least.
For the original on plywood or car door, I would offer them also to Bankbobber and Twissler and if they refused or offered to sell them on sale or return. I would be very disdainful towards them both.

If you two can negotiate a decent percentage and you're happy with the estimate then ship it over for the viewing and auction. Obviously you can counter with Christies and Sotheby's as well if you'd like.
