2015: Rise of the U.S. Dollar ?, by Oski on Jan 6, 2015 0:48:05 GMT 1, It's definitely helped with my recent purchases from Europe, with actual exchange rates of 1.59 to GBP and 1.27 to EUR. Certainly beats the days of 2:1 and 1.7:1.

2015: Rise of the U.S. Dollar ?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Jan 6, 2015 3:29:51 GMT 1, Over here the Aussie $ is falling like a stone and there's talk of recession. The last recession in Australia was 23 years ago. Jobs being lost everywhere, cuts being made - same pattern emerging as Europe and all the $$ money made from Chinese importing our coal/iron ore etc. has been squandered. Only thing propping up the economy is crazy house prices, huge bubble over here (mainly in Sydney and Melbourne) propped up by Asian buyers. Interesting times ahead me thinks...

Ive been looking to buy in the inner west in Syds and prices have gone up 20% to 30% in a year. Who knows whats going to happen.

2015: Rise of the U.S. Dollar ?, by Deleted on Jan 6, 2015 9:27:18 GMT 1, any issue in Australia is to do with successive governments failing to ensure investment in future facing industry and relying on those of the past to secure the future...which doesn't work...oh and failing to realise climate warming is real and fucking mining won't be accepted in the global market in the long term.

Sydney has gone crazy, we took the profit and ran last year!! Not run but drove to Brisbane, bought a big house and pool and now have a low mortgage, cheaper up here, Brisbane is slower paced/more relaxed, doesn't get below 21 deg in winter . . I know people in Sydney so much in debt with these multi million $ houses, only takes one to lose their job and it will all end in tears. Don't borrow to much mate or buy in some other city for cheaper and rent it out to pay off mortgage. Spend the rest on banksy OG's you'll have a better return
But agree its worrying going forward especially for Aussie youngsters as the country is behind in investing in future tech and research etc. although huge deals signed recently with china for agriculture which will bring in billions but nothing can replace the mining. Government in my opinion needs to stop negative gearing also, everyone owns investment properties sitting around drinking lattes. The property bubble has to crash surely? In economics don't all bubbles burst?
Good luck kezz and not sure if you've been already but worth going to the popism show at the national museum, well worth a look, we went last week.. Cheers

2015: Rise of the U.S. Dollar ?, by BKBOI on Jan 6, 2015 21:35:22 GMT 1, Europe is struggling to keep Greece in the euro. The euro hit a 9-year low against the U.S. dollar Monday. Is this the starting point of the rise of the dollar? traders never like uncertainty and will always bet against a currency where major changes might happen. kind of the same with the massive sell off of the GBP during the Scottish referendum.
