Royal Mint £100 coin , by Unica on Jan 6, 2015 21:38:41 GMT 1, It doesn't look like a good investment to me as as an 1 ounce of silver is about £10 at the moment, so your paying £100 for £20 of material, that being said the coin has £100 of value as currency. Not sure how these will appreciate and why it will ever be worth more than £100. And 50,000 is a lot of coins, as a collectible can you imagine if an artist came out with 50,000 prints. If Eyesaw came out with 50,000 Banksy Knock off LIITTA none of us would touch them.
I'd be interested to hear any other views, just my opinion and i'm no expert in coins or prints.

Royal Mint £100 coin , by Nick on Jan 6, 2015 21:48:33 GMT 1, Can't see it appreciating much but you can't really go wrong as it's legal tender so there is no risk. Quite a nice novelty so why not

Here's where all the kids own them now & they're not so quirky after all!ha

Royal Mint £100 coin , by Unica on Jan 6, 2015 23:04:45 GMT 1, I'd think you would be better off buying an Apple share or something similar maybe a £100 worth of silver, in 10 years that £100 coin will only be worth £100 and it will have been ravaged by inflation.

Royal Mint £100 coin , by vacano on Jan 7, 2015 0:18:27 GMT 1, I would actually be tempted to exchange a few hundred pounds (in notes) for these £100 coins then see what reaction I get when I try and use them in the shops

Royal Mint £100 coin , by Schrödinger's Chat on Jan 7, 2015 9:36:34 GMT 1, agree that these will probably not appreciate in value much.
I've not had much luck with shares but Apple have represented a good investment for me as they have gone up over 50% in the last 6 months. Financial advise shows that investment in a trust fund that tracks the ftse 100 has represented good steady growth in the long term I.e. over 20 years, whilst the ftse goes up and down daily/weekly the overall trend is that it just goes up.

Royal Mint £100 coin , by Liverpool ste123 on Jan 7, 2015 10:55:05 GMT 1,
Well that's the decider right there for me! It isn't happening!
My little girl strangely enough has shares with an Edinburgh firm (Foreign & Colonnial I think?) but my little boy doesn't & it's something I've been meaning to do to put them on an even footing, with a steady investment each month of say £50/£100 each. It may curtail my art spending somewhat but it's for the kids so, like us all, we move mountains for them
Thanks for all the input guys, really appreciate it
What a con that Royal Mint seems too now... Disappointed.
