Condition of banksy prints , by londonfx on Jan 7, 2015 8:20:29 GMT 1, Sorry if this is a noob question.
I've read a lot about the earlier banksys being prone to damage and marking? Is this something that was done through the printing process or just a result of the delicate materials used and the age of the print?
I know this can be subjective and each print is unique. But generally speaking is this the case?

Some of them will have been treated as posters and put up with pins, sellotape, blu tac etc, or cut to fit into frames. But overall I'm not aware of anything to affect their condition if treated correctly.

Condition of banksy prints , by Feral Things on Jan 7, 2015 9:01:29 GMT 1, At the first Santa's Ghetto and at one of the Anarchist Bookfairs the prints were just in a pile on a table for people to leaf through so they might have picked up the odd ding there. Also, a few prints were pinned or stuck up at shows but the prints left the print studios in mint condition and for the most part any damage was done after the prints were bought. Flags was printed on stock which is particularly susceptible to damage and a few of the non-editioned early prints were on stock which is more susceptible to UV bleaching but otherwise any damage is mostly down to the prints being Blu Tac-ed etc. up back in the day as @headfall mentioned.

Condition of banksy prints , by Forbidden Love on Jan 8, 2015 14:27:04 GMT 1, also back in the day they didnt have much value so the older ones were treated like posters (depending on the person) obviously not all were damaged.

Condition of banksy prints , by SW20 on Jan 8, 2015 16:40:55 GMT 1, Londonfx as mentioned above there is nothing specific in general but there is also quite q wide variation of the conditions that a print can be in from mint to rough.
First rule of buying one is..see it outside of a frame. Any pin holes dings etc will show up. You will also be able to see if it is stuck to some form of backing which is quite a common problem due to cheap framing when they were not worth much this is the biggest problem to watch out for.
If the seller does not want to take it out then don't buy it. You must see it out of the frame one for backing but also to check its not fake tough but at least your safe. You can always get it put back in the frame but you can't get the board off the back.
