Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris, by t3c on Jan 7, 2015 14:30:04 GMT 1, Hope all you guys in Paris are ok, just seen shocking footage of this cowardly act of violence & hate Can't help but feel this is just the beginning of attacks like these though, hope i'm wrong obviously. The professionalism and organisation was properly chilling, they knew how to handle weapons & group shots with meticulous precision. Scary times for sure..thoughts go out to those affected by all of this and the people of Paris

Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris, by Sohoria on Jan 7, 2015 15:08:08 GMT 1, I'm almost lost for words, there are often times people talk only about the bad what police do but any police officer present during this has my admiration. Sympathy for anyone injured or has lost a loved one today.
Let's hope they can capture the terrorists at the earliest.

Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris, by russkov on Jan 7, 2015 15:30:11 GMT 1, Charlie Hebdo was aware of the risks they were facing. Charb, Cabu, Wolinski and Tignous have been shot dead. I discovered Cabu when I was a kid watching the cartoons on the Recre A2 (Frenchies will surely undertsand), almost 30 years ago now... And maybe my way of looking at art and satyrical pictures today has been helped by the creativity and the freedom of speech of such people. Very sad day! I really hope that Charlie Hebdo will keep on whatever it takes, and that any person for or against the values of Charlie Hebdo would remember that at the end they were acting for keeping the freedom of press and speech a reality. Whatever message the terrorists wanted to send, this and the unbearable video of this cop wounded being shot in the street of Paris, it went wrong. Also a thought for the 5 severely wounded, and the survivors of this slaughter. Peace by art.

Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris, by t3c on Jan 7, 2015 15:33:23 GMT 1, yeah man, the way they executed that poor guy was unreal and just makes you think just how horrific it must've been in the office.
I would imagine Private Eye and The New Statesman (2 London based saticrical publications for those unsure) have shut up shop for today as well

Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris, by Hubble Bubble on Jan 7, 2015 16:35:43 GMT 1, Appalling tragedy.
As Voltaire was (mistakenly) purported to have said, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
(The words were attributed to Voltaire by the French philosopher Helvetius)
FFSโฆ we can't condone living in a society where journalists are shot dead for poking fun at religion, can we?
Can we?

Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris, by Deleted on Jan 7, 2015 17:44:38 GMT 1, wow, what is going on in the world lately? I'm reading a book about the history of crime in the US, and it talks about how there used to be more public bombings and shootings back in the 20's. seems like we're going back to those times now
sending my love to all my French mates on here. Hope you're all well

Mobstr always nails it (if it is indeed him, looks like his work) I don't know who did it but it could be. It's just an internet meme I remembered upon hearing of the shootings. Checked google images and saw this. Seemed more appropriate for this forum than the random 'dude with a coffee cup and a cheeky smile' I had originally seen next to the phrase, not to mention the situation is nothing to smile about.

Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris, by sgolby on Jan 7, 2015 19:16:03 GMT 1, This is an incredibly sad day. Unfortunately it is a further illustration of how Religion can be used to pollute the minds of the weak. I want to be clear about one fact, this is not a problem linked to Islam. Unfortunately given the pervasive abuse of peoples within Islamic majority countries by appointed, elected, or forced upon leadership, they are more likely to turn to religion as an outlet or source of betterment. Preying upon this lack of alternative inspiration, megalomaniacle clerics and militaristic movement leaders have been able to conscript the most deadly religiously fanatical army since the diocese's Christian army during the crusades. Twisting the Koran to allow for the killing of people who insult their prophet is no different from evangelical leaders who convince their followers to bomb abortion clinics or assault gays. It is only differnet in size and scope. We can argue about the root causes of this for days or even years, however in order for this problem to truly be solved, the leaders of these islamic majority countries need to stop spending their resources to line their and their cronies's pockets and begin spending money to enrich the lives of their people through culture and education.

This is clearly a problem linked to Islam, not sure how this incident is not 100% an Islamic problem. Making excuses for any group of murders is wrong and disrecptful.

Bone, this is a religious problem in general. ABSOLUTELY NOT LINKED TO ONE RELIGION. Spend some time in the bible belt of the US and tell me that Christians do not have the same potential to kill in the name of their lord as Muslims. Remember Hitler.
Please if you want to continue to be ignorant and blame Islam feel free. However I believe it is more disrespectful to have a gut reaction as you are having right now, and not having the intelligence or patience to examine history nor the courage and stamina to address the real problem.
I am not making excuses, I simply refuse to condemn an entire populace for the actions of some, when the history of my country and it's dominant religion is also painted with the blood of fanatics, both religious and not.

Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris, by davievegas on Jan 7, 2015 20:11:18 GMT 1, No matter how you look at this, I have grown to learn you NEVER talk religion or politics at a dinner table or in general anymore. Sad to have to say that but its reality. When we are angry enough, we as humans go to the extreme. Whether its by saying "Lets bomb them all and no one will miss them" or anything else. Its all out of anger because normal people cant fathom how this even happens. Unfortunately radical islam has been consistent with the label "Terrorists". As my friend pointed out In the past(2001) it was catholics attacking in ireland over religion etc.
I live in the US and when I hear terrorist, I think of islamic extremists. Since the horrific terrorist attack on world trade center sept 11th 2001 its kind of hard not too here in the US. Imagine being plucked as a child and taught all the extremist ways and living your life 100% according to that ONLY. We as people seem to get brain washed easily and I am hoping in time, all the past hateful teaching weeds themselves out over time. I do not know the % of decline or rise in certain terrorist/murder statistics but hopefully they are declining.
This attack in france is horrible. It seems everyones security in ALL european countries needs to always be on high alert in my opinion. After reading the article, It seems the editors/newspaper company was threatened multiple times. Where was the police and the investigations? Why was this not important? Police did not do its job. Same thing happened with the US and the 9/11 attack. Police did not do its job after multiple threats over a couple months.
The police/government intelligence is lacking here in the US. Greed and the almighty paycheck seems to be what the US lives for in the work field. Is this happening in france and other european countries as well?

Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris, by vaddig on Jan 7, 2015 20:26:44 GMT 1, it's one of the saddest news for long time in france. I am french and then my english sucks a lot, but charlie hebdo was the most satiric newspaper in the country and we all have the right to disagree what they said, because of a lack of humor, but they had the right and they always defend the liberty This attack is worst than a "traditionnal" terrorist attack because this is one of the thing who represent my country, the liberty of thinking and laughing about anyone and anything... I never or rarely talk here, but i use this forum to say what i think about this shitty things very very sad day
