Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Deleted on Nov 24, 2015 17:26:09 GMT 1, i think they are strong results from what seemed like a very poor auction
i watched from half way and i would say at least 40% of the other artworks went unsold..you could hear a pin drop in the auction room

The increase from the last sale was only Β£3.5k including fees. Not trying to get into a price discussion but 3.5k on 52 is nearly 7% appreciation in 5 months (since June.) This is art and worth noting that I'd be a very happy man if my investments did half that. Come to think of it, I'd be delighted if my investments simply stopped bleeding.

Plus, the frequency of public sales of these prints is so low you that you can't determine truly if they're statistically different. Either way, my point is that gallery asking prices of Β£85k are truly ridiculous.

Given that GWB seems to be the flavor of the month right now for this artist, 85 asks do not surprise me. Likewise, I would expect a gallery with retail space that was truly interested in selling, prospective buyers would see the 85 wither away in short order. Maybe not to 55 but close. If it doesn't, then they obviously aren't interested in selling it and just use it for enticement and conversation which shouldn't be unexpected either given the interest. I guess we just look at it differently which is no bother.

Rather absurd, isn't it?
Also pretty wild that the signature is apparently worth about 40k.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Rolex on Nov 25, 2015 9:58:58 GMT 1, I think you'd be surprised how many people on this forum would pay Β£60k for this print. I think it's absurd that people pay Β£20k for an unsigned print that we all know Banksy has had nothing to do with, other than tell his printing company you can sell it under my name. No different to a w c p really. I'm still struggling to convince myself to buy an unsigned barcode for Β£7.5 k but at least that has a red stamped signature .

Still if you never bought one when it was Β£75, who am I to argue with you.
Good luck with the Barcode.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by lobster on Nov 25, 2015 12:30:47 GMT 1, Totally agree with CAT and frankly it was insanity for the seller of the signed GWB to put it in that sale - what would they have ended up with - around Β£40K - if one was advertised on this forum at that price I would expect a lot of people to be happy to WALK to wherever the seller is in the world to buy it !!!
Lionel Gallery were getting the best part of 100Keuros for these and I think Andy at Castle Gallery had one for around Β£60K which sold in minutes.
I think we can all empathise with " Dungle's " sentiments about paying Β£60K for a ( not very good quality ) piece of paper with a signature but that is an exausting debate that I am sure has and will continue to rage on as long as a market for " Art " exists - what is relevant now are current market conditions and for the seller to come out with around Β£40K for this he undoubtedly sold it cheaply.

I remember a time when people were struggling to put their hands in their pockets for Β£1,200 for a signed Kate or Β£6k for a LIITA canvas from Santa's Ghetto.
Ten years ago you could pick up a Warhol print for Β£6-Β£7k. Now you're looking at Β£30k +.
Banksy is already a bigger part of art history than the art establishment will ever acknowledge - at least while he's still alive - because all they ever do is look back.
You could argue that Β£7.5k isn't too high a price to pay for owning a piece of art history. Depends how much you really want it.
