In other words the piece is eligible for one and PC will issue one.

It's already been authenticated. COA is pending. Bonhams check all Banksy's with PC before the auctions.

If it states 'accompanied' legally I don't think they would have a leg to stand on. If you want the print though, it might be worth trying for a big reduction in the buyers fees.

Dont fret. They will have applied for it prior to sale. Covid restrictions and crap postal services will be holding it up.

Few reasons I would have not paid as much if it’s pending Last auction I purchased no coa waited 11months It’s hard to sell on with a coa pending Feel if they say it’s got one one would assume they telling the truth

It was more a suggestion to the buyer so they could personally get comfortable.

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by JFCC on Mar 11, 2021 17:58:25 GMT 1, Bonhams have become very difficult to deal with of late, it seems to match the poor quality sales of late. Their condition reports have come at best "generous" and they are quite happy to fall out with long standing customers.
The COA point is shoddy, I have had similar with another Auction house, but they held their hands up and they actually said I could do whatever I wanted as I had paid in full. I kept the piece as I am well aware that Pending means approved and they guaranteed money back if anything went wrong which it didn't. I got my certificate in 2 months.
Additionally I have use the Pest Control Authentication service now a few times and it was very quick, the longest was just over a couple of months all done!

All auction houses have the same caveat. Catalogue descriptions are opinion only, not statements of fact.

They also have certain statutory obligations that cannot be disclaimered away or contracted around. Plenty of case law of auction houses hiding behind terms of business and being on the wrong end of a claim. Personally I think he’s got enough to put pressure on them, even if it’s just to get a discount on the fees. I probably wouldn’t recommend anything more than a nasty letter from a lawyer as if they want to defend it will get expensive.

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by George Poppit on Mar 24, 2021 11:24:27 GMT 1, No mention of the Girl with Ice Cream (GWIC) being part of an edition in the Bonhams description. There would be a big difference in price between a unique work and an edition. Interesting to see how it's defined on the PC. I know his market is crazy but it doesn't feel like a £500k work to me. I'd be shocked if it cleared £1m

I wonder what the hammer price would have been if it had been auctioned just 48 hours earlier?
