Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by snausages on Jan 30, 2009 3:12:16 GMT 1, The Basquiat - for me - rocks the auction house and an absolute bargain if it only goes for top estimate of ยฃ10k They used to sell for ยฃ5k, don't go too crazy.
And is that Nola on canvas?! 60k!?! Wow.
I never expect great things from Bonhams but the selection of Banksy's isn't bad although estimates are slightly higher than I'd like to see right now. But they certainly do let some other mediocre stuff in. The Faile's? eh, just ok.
And the signed set from LA, they're numbered 30, so I might presume that something like 30-50 of them were sold in LA with the rest being sold on POW. Perhaps these were sold to the inner circle and not the public? These aren't the printer or artist proofs. Strange that this is the first time anyone has seen them.

Someone mentionned on here last week in response to an LA print (numbered 100 odd) being on ebay that the prints that were sold in LA were numbered between 50 and 150, so they'll have been the unsigned ones. If these are from the first 50 then they weren't part of the batch for sale at the show.

But a certain amount of signed prints must have been sold at the show as well. It says so in the auction catalog: Provenance: 'Barely Legal', Los Angeles. I guess you had to know someone to get them?
And they're numbered out of 150 not 500. They're not unsigned prints that Banksy decided to sign. Which I guess meens POW only sold about 100 of each signed version.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by bonesy on Jan 30, 2009 11:37:50 GMT 1, I had unsigned prints from LA numbered in the 20's. The LA prints werent even ready until the 3rd day of the exhibition. They had the raw piles right from the printer in the back room, which was in view, and were getting peoples orders together (that they had taken a couple days before). At the time they were distributing them none of the prints in the pile were signed. These were signed after the show. I had some in the 20's and a friend had some numbered in the 30's, this number is in the middle.

This provenance sounds like its going to be the pink Laz receipt provided at the time of purchase, which I dont think is going to say 'signed'.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by elwheel on Jan 30, 2009 13:00:50 GMT 1, Probably double checking the release numbers, issues etc.. based on discussions in this thread. Dimensions for SAS are listed at what look like the active print size (75x57cm) rather than 'field'/print size

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by jonpud on Jan 30, 2009 15:59:39 GMT 1,
Now this is interesting, Pest Control are setting a precedent here.
I am pretty sure I am correct when I say this was given to Jon Carter ( former DJ husband of Sara Cox) as a gift from Banksy to thank him for his services at the Turf War exhibition.
Jon passed it the same day to his driver as thanks for his help, the driver then sold it to a friend of mine who has now put it into the auction, I have seen this in the flesh and it's mint!
I didn't think Pest Control were authenticating gifts as Banksy was pretty pissed about them being sold for profit!? How can they not authenticate all of these signed, unnumbered prints now? Very, very interesting!!!!!!
I guess it all depends who is asking?

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by Cocteau 101 on Jan 30, 2009 16:24:08 GMT 1, Interesting these LA set signed, my set is in the 70's and is unsigned I was totally unaware of any signed sets other than the printers proofs. I have the pink receipt with mine and I wpould think these will have the same, how they managed to get them signed is a totally different question. I'm intrigued so if anyone knows the answer or who they belong to then I'd like to know.

the nola isn't a charity auction so why re-sell it so soon?
*cross referencing the footnotes on the above auctions i'm presuming they have nothing to do with banksy or laz
