Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by shygetshigh83 on Dec 15, 2016 14:53:08 GMT 1, I mentioned the similarity on his Instagram. He said he did it first. Then deleted my comment and blocked me after I pointed to evidence of the contrary. Oh, and he called me homeboy. Haven't heard that one since the 90s. Any comments he doesn't like, he deletes then bans. Guy seems like a tool tbh. I'm selling the rest of my relics after this last release SaveSave If you sell the Relic 02 (the camera) let me know.

It's just as much about execution. Does KAWS have great ideas? Not really(and I'm the hugest fan), but his execution is flawless. Could say this for about pretty much every single artist if you want to nitpick.
I'd argue that Daniel's take on these is much more succinct and relevant than the other metal ones. IMO casting those in metal loses the desired affect and they're really not good(even the Stipe ones).

Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by msobel3 on Dec 15, 2016 17:38:52 GMT 1, You international guys give this artist a lot of shit about shipping charges. The shipping charges within the US were extremely reasonable. He's a NYC based artist. And as a result, like most New Yorkers, probably a bit NY-centric. If you live here, it is clear to see that people think that NYC is the center of the universe.
randomname what did you want him to do? sit on instagram and go back and forth arguing with you? how would you respond if someone came into your place of work and started making accusations towards you or critiquing you? if you could simply block them, dont you think you might do it? Go accuse other artists of stealing ideas on instagram... i bet they will block you as well. And did you know that Daniel was in a group show at Perrotin back in 2004?
You guys complain terribly about shipping charges overseas, and i certainly agree that they are high, but realize that hes doing everyone a favor by even offering to ship internationally. He just as easily could have limited shipping to USA and that would have been that.
If you look through the for sale posts on this forum, you will see how many people refuse to ship overseas! And lets be honest, most of you guys knew that shipping charges were going to be prohibitively expensive. But it was only when the relic was sold out that people realized they wanted it. I didn't see many posts on this forum a week before release saying I am located overseas, would someone in the US be willing to purchase for me and then ship it to UK or Europe.
I find it hard to imagine that someone could find fault with this release compared to what else goes on, particularly on graffiti prints and the like. The release could not have been more smooth. It was simple to access, there was no smashing f5, there was no site crash, no robots to compete with. I mean come on, guys. Compared to most of the other releases that occur, this one was so much better, less stressful and easily successful for anyone who knew they wanted it and was on ebay at noon.

I knew the shipping fees would be massive and I was able to buy one very easily and even with some time to think about it twice... still much cheaper than a STIK print ! Bargain in my books ;-)

Part of what makes great art great is originality. Kaws, while not my cup of tea, did something original. I don't think you would look at his work and say another artist did the exact same thing first.
And in case you didn't notice, the Future Fossils by Bughouse were cast in concrete. Daniel copied the idea exactly, only leaving off the patina.
Taking another artist's idea is not only unoriginal, it's dishonest and unethical. I find that collectors tend to mirror the ethics (or lack thereof) of the artists they collect more often than not.

As arsham said, and he is proving his honesty, eBay sorted the shipping fees and his team is doing their best to refund extra shipping so everything is alright but you can't say that he is doing kind of favor to the rest of the world by offering international shipping! He is not even a New Yorker! An artist like him can't count only on his country fans, this is about business here! The release is a $200k thing so I do believe that for his pocket and his hype he need a sold out in less than 10 minutes and an international release ! And I respect that, this about art but business too ! I was lucky enough to got funds for the release but I think it's sad for other fans that wanted that piece so much and been stopped by the shipping fees, like many people on the board!

Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by dundun on Dec 16, 2016 20:19:53 GMT 1, Completely disagree. Art isn't just about ideas. You're welcome to disagree. There's nothing wrong with being wrong. Ha. That's a pretty pompous claim when you're debating opinion.
Please explain to me what KAWS or BANKSY did that's so original? Painting your character over adverts isn't exactly new and neither is making ironic social commentary using stencils. I mean KAWS admits his Companion and Chum characters are his take on Mickey Mouse and the Michelin man. Not original at all. In fact nothing is original anymore. Almost everything has been done and it's just a matter of time until someone unearths an artists source. There's a famous Einstein quote about that.
I still think the future fossil series is crap and Daniel's execution is miles better. You can tell me I'm wrong about that, but you can't debate that almost all art is derivative in one form or another. The challenge/beauty lies in the execution and I'll stand by that.

Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by Cutkillavince on Dec 16, 2016 20:37:10 GMT 1, I finally got a shipping confirmation email 30mn ago, but still no refund nor email. Also the item was shipped via USPS whereas it should have been via UPS Worldwide Express Plus as mentioned in the order description...
I'm quoting myself I was contacted by Daniel Arsham's team just few minutes ago, see below
"Yes we are working on adjusting the shipping costs and sending refunds for the difference in cost. You should receive the shipping refund later today. Thanks for your patience while we sort this out. There was some problem with the eBay sale this time and it charged everyone so much! We are fixing it!"
EDIT: I've just received a partial refund of $238, cool
