Passed on this, after picking up the Soup Can I feel like any more than ยฃ1.50 for one of his works is too muchย how hard would it be to replicate his work?ย Whether it's a cast with decayed portions or literally a plastic cast for stuff like this?ย
Ask nobokov he sells better quality ones for a fraction of the price๐ Personally, I wouldn't buy anything from Arsham. The blokes a nob and you have zero customer service if anything goes wrong... and it does.

He puts more effort and detail into his packaging and little security stickers than he does with the art.

Thanks, I wouldn't say better quality, but I did give it a good college try at it.
They're surprisingly easy to replicate and inexpensive. Last November I was going to make this exact gameboy plaster version, but couldn't find my old gameboy. I only had one game too...super mario land...the only game I've ever beaten.
Once I find it I can make an edition of 200 for $20, if anyone's interested.

@manty100 yeah these are total crap, got the blue one and sand wouldnt move. they offered me a refund though after i followed their instructions and tried to dry it in the sun as they suggested for a week... Worst thing is that they will release 6 more colorways of these hourglass, with probably the same defects again

Well the Future Relics is his concept and it's pretty original, at least in the way he presents it. I'm also not saying he's anywhere near Haring but he does interesting work. unfortunately, there's absolutely nothing about his concept that's original at all. it's been done before, almost identically.

Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by nobokov on Jan 17, 2020 22:58:08 GMT 1, For the most part, a lot of the relics look pretty nice. I'm guessing a lot of people are just annoyed how expensive they are and at how successful the hypebeast machine is.
Here's the recipe if anyone wants to DIY them.
Buy Composimold. Microwave it according to the directions and pour it over any object.
Wait 30 minutes and you have a mold.
Then smash up some crystals you buy on etsy and put them in the mold.
use plaster of paris with water and pour into the mold. Wait one hour and you have a new relic-ed Dildo.
If you want to have text or images on it, buy a 3d printer, import the image and you can have your book text or videogame cartridge image.
It's a lot of fun to do and can get addictive.

Haven't loved a lot of this work, but this one certainly has a nostalgic feel for me. Cost is somewhat irrelevant, IMO. market will drive the prices up given he's relatively established at this point. Prices will go down with the next recession. I think after the next recession, we see who has staying power and who doesn't.

Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by met on Jan 19, 2020 16:48:48 GMT 1, No one is seriously considering this, right? Stop bullying people over the art they like.
Forgive me if I appear to make a mountain out of a molehill. Your post may have been just a throwaway quip, but the issue raised is an important one.
__________
If they're to retain any meaning at all, words like "bullying" (or harassment" or violence") need to be used scrupulously and with due sparingness.
Criticism about art on an art message board is hardly bullying, is it? And whether or not sarcasm or mockery are used to get one's point across doesn't alter this fact.
A message board is precisely the kind of platform where people should be prompted to express their thoughts in a forthright manner. Overly-diplomatic language and disengagement should be left for dinner parties โ or for other contexts where there's a general consensus that social harmony (and not offending) take priority over education, thinking and the voicing of honestly-held opinions.
__________
Disapproving comments about artworks and artists are in my view among the most essential posts we have on this forum. For less-experienced collectors in particular.
These posts by detractors, especially when accompanied by reasoning, push us to question and reassess our own taste. And for an art collector to continue maturing, their preferences must be constantly challenged. [So if anyone gets upset when art choices they make are picked apart, then it really is in their interest to build up their mental resilience.]
Each of us should keep asking ourselves, "Why exactly do I like this art? What makes it any good?" And, if different, "Why exactly do I want to acquire it?"
I've tried to emphasise the same point on different occasions, including here and here. The ability to answer the above questions is paramount for anyone who considers themselves an art enthusiast. Moreover, it can often be an antidote to making unwise impulse purchases โ whether due to the fear of missing out, being swept up by momentary hype, and/or herd instinct.
__________
Regrettably, there have always been efforts on this forum to dissuade unflattering posts. Attempts to shut down open discussion are typically made by collectors of the relevant work or artist, those with (often undisclosed) vested interests, or possibly well-intentioned but misguided individuals who just want others to restrict themselves to fawning enthusiasm.
Some members might even be discouraged from engaging in critical thinking and writing anything critical about art. Perhaps their hesitation comes after seeing others being accused of so-called negativity, or confronted with thought-terminating clichรฉs โ like the truly cretinous, "If you don't like it, why bother commenting?" or "Haters gonna hate."
Whenever remarks like these succeed in silencing members, or otherwise hindering the free exchange of competing viewpoints, I believe that is to the detriment of this forum and its readership.

Perhaps their hesitation comes after seeing others being accused of so-called negativity, or confronted with thought-terminating clichรฉs โ like the truly cretinous, "If you don't like it, why bother commenting?" or "Haters gonna hate."Whenever remarks like these succeed in silencing members, or otherwise hindering the free exchange of competing viewpoints, I believe that is to the detriment of this forum and its readership.
