Why are so many prints unframed?, by dodsi on Jan 11, 2015 21:16:23 GMT 1, I have been doing a lot of reading up and browsing here a lot as only really for the last year have I collected any sort of art, not that I have not amassed a number of pieces in that time and recently been wanting to diversify my collection a little.
I have just purchased an unframed 1\1 pure evil print and as soon as it arrives (tomorrow hopefully) its being taken to the local framers even though I do not have a place to hang it immediately! I just want it protecting etc.
I notice on here a lot of pieces are unframed and therefore I assume not displayed, am I missing the point here? Or am I just being somewhat green to this game?

Why are so many prints unframed?, by Hubble Bubble on Jan 11, 2015 21:29:42 GMT 1, As dungle says but also, genuinely, one begins to buy and has difficulty stopping. Next time you look around you've got a folio with dozens of prints in it. Framing can be expensive and wall space limited so a lot of folk have stuff unframed.

Why are so many prints unframed?, by South Bound on Jan 11, 2015 21:46:27 GMT 1, I am probably typical amongst many on here in that I end up spending my framing budget on more prints... That being said, I have 10 prints at the framers, but it took me a while to get around to it.

Why are so many prints unframed?, by WOOF on Jan 11, 2015 22:25:06 GMT 1, Yeah, also the way the print market works, people end up rushing to buy prints for fear of them selling out. That leads to a lot of purchases that, on second look, don't speak to the buyer as much as they maybe did at first, so those don't get framed.
And yes, there are also those looking to invest, so they don't frame to keep "mint" condition.

People collect prints for the fun of collecting (this includes buying something that is super popular and will rise in value), not purely to put on the wall. It's a shame... But also few people have homes big enough to display all the prints they buy.

Why are so many prints unframed?, by oxomo on Jan 12, 2015 11:31:57 GMT 1, FOMO - If an artist I love is releasing a print that I love, I will try and buy it regardless of wall space, and often funds.
As soon as the print arrives I'll put it in my folder to flatten it, primed for the day I take it to the framers. That day could come at any time. Because of this, my collection of stored prints increases.

Why are so many prints unframed?, by Hairbland on Jan 12, 2015 16:53:28 GMT 1, Why is there so many ridiculous questions asked in this forum? Because it is January, and this is a forum, essentially digital water cooler chatter. You seem educated, this should be easy to understand. It's subtitled a "newb question". If annoying to you best to avoid.

Why are so many prints unframed?, by Deleted on Jan 12, 2015 17:08:01 GMT 1, I used to like 2 sugars in my coffee, now even a few grains over 1/2 a spoon, and its too sweet, I may even go as far to say ruined. Very strange, why would that be? i lay awake thinking about it, especially when I have gorged on cheese earlier that evening, which leads me to another question, what is it cheese and sleeping

Why are so many prints unframed?, by dodsi on Jan 12, 2015 20:23:25 GMT 1, Well, I do apologise for my obviously newb question subtitled as such for your convenience, more an observation of mine and interested in the answer... Which in it's self will be subjective.
My admittance and reasoning behind my thoughts/opinions I thought was fair. I am just interested as to why - whether I agree with the reasons given already is something else and not for me to judge anyone. I just can't see the enjoyment (or maybe full enjoyment) of owning a stack of art I can't look at.
However, I do think as said within a year I will probably be in the same situation with more than I can hang,it's probably a matter of time. I suppose they are just Football cards for adults and eventually we all end up with a pile of 'swapsies'.

Why are so many prints unframed?, by Acme Thunderer on Jan 12, 2015 22:21:27 GMT 1, For me, its the glass that costs the most when compared to the frame. Especially as I now only use museum/UV quality to protect the print which is very expensive for some larger sizes. Also as we now seem purchase from all over the world - shipping as framed would cost a fortune.

Why are so many prints unframed?, by cmodart on Jan 14, 2015 8:19:18 GMT 1, For me - There comes a point at which there is just no more room and/or budget to frame prints, so it goes in the flat file and doesn't come back out. Some, however will save them unframed to preserve max value. Maybe they don't like the image, or the wife doesn't like it, etc... It's not a stupid question. Don't sweat it.
