I hate that I enjoy Retnas art.
After last years shady releases and his own internet (and real life) drama, I really don't want to support him.
I sold my provactuers print but slightly regret it...still sort of want something on the wall.

And a 13press release....looks like 2015 is starting off to be the same.

Retna responded to criticism with violence, vulgarity and thuggery. It was in poor taste and rather arrogant. The 13 press's releases have been suspect to say the least and seem to be manufacturered to have really few primary sales with more internal flipping taking place. No different than a band scalping it's own tickets on stub hub but still shitty. It turned off some folks to his work, myself included but some of us, myself included have continued to acquire the work, in my case for financial reasons. Seems like a safe bet to hold for 6 years and sell when college come around for my little one.

Retna is a violent idiot who's stupidness shouldn't be fueled by buying his (repetitive) art.

I'm just curious as to why MW gets bashed for repetitive tagging but artists like retna do not.

I do not own art by either and I actually quite like this print but won't be buying one.

One certainly expects a better class of Graffitti artists these days.

Especially now we call them artists and not vandals. The least they could do is behave accordingly.

pretty soon they will realise it takes "middle class manners" to make it onto  "middle class" walls.

I am not surprised. But it's just a bit of an irony since art is mostly about refinement and culture. Not that I expect artists, esp street artists, to be all saints and don't sprout the occasional f word. But what i hear (and saw the instagram captures) on that other cope2 thread just offers a not-so-pleasant peek into what really goes on in the mind of the person. That's beyond rude - you can even sense the violence in the messages.

Can't comment too much on retna though as I didn't read the other thread. Care to link up?

All gripes aside, i dont really like this piece.

Complaining about high expectations for street artists is lazy.

Defacing property, trespassing, occasional fist-fights, arrests, drug use... Yawn. Don't care. Beating up women is NOT acceptable, if that happened. Anyone that doesn't understand the difference is also not a person I would like to associate with.

And any gallery that's engaging in shady practices deserves criticism. Not sure why buyers should keep lining up for abuse?

Was Retna ever charged and found guilty with assault? Or are we basing this accusation off the TMZ report?

rich people don't get found guilty for assault; they settle out of court.
