Re-using frames, by Deleted on Jan 29, 2015 15:50:58 GMT 1, This is probably a question directed at those on here involved in the framing process, but how easy is it for a framer to take an existing frame and glass and then reduce it to fit another smaller piece of art.
Inotherwords, I've got £500's worth of frame and glass housing a particular print. If I were to sell the print, could that frame and glass be re-used on something of a smaller size.
I appreciate the need to make sure it still looks proprtionate, but am more interested in the work involved. ( It's not an ornamental frame btw, just plain black )
Thanks.

Re-using frames, by robertjones on Jan 29, 2015 16:54:28 GMT 1, What ever the edition of the print would be you could sell the frame to someone with that print who doesn't have it framed & then get a new frame made up, just an idea ?

Re-using frames, by Lesson1 on Jan 29, 2015 17:36:35 GMT 1, Good original question as ii have wondered that. If I want to keep a print but want it's frame reduced hours ready is it. I imagine cutting class, cutting frames down and rejoining and trimming the mat?

Re-using frames, by SW20 on Jan 29, 2015 17:38:23 GMT 1, Think you will tend to find that it can be done but most framers will not be interested. If you have one framer you use all the time sure they will help you out as it can be done.
Problem for a framer is that it's more work Han to do a new frame plus materials are only a percentage of cost so even to do what you want they will want to charge you quite a lot.
If you put a similar size piece in it is a much better deal all round. So it's more of a favour from your framer little effort and they can give you a small charge etc all happy
Just my opinion of course. Not a framer etc

Re-using frames, by Lesson1 on Jan 29, 2015 17:42:31 GMT 1, Cheers, I get that. I'd be happy to pay the framer the usual mark up but it would save paying again for museum glass!
