Dran Show • Public Execution, London 2015, by supercockle on Feb 22, 2015 0:07:44 GMT 1, Time for bed. Had a really long day. Met some great people, saw the climax of what I thought was a fantastic show, met the man himself and managed to get what I wanted.
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable few weeks.
The scene is much better with Dran an active part of it IMO. He's done something different and kept everyone talking for 16 days.
If you're a Dran fan, it's been a great spectacle. I can't wait for the next instalment.

Personally, I think this is wrong.
For the same reason that Banksy sold his prints for c£500.
It's about making the art affordable to fans. Though even at that price, many couldn't afford it.
Make the pieces market value, and it becomes a very elite club. Which sits unwell with street art.
The down side is money for flippers, but that's the lesser of two evils.

Also sometimes artists get to a point where a fan owning an original isn't realistic; I guess if you want to give fans originals for low prices then you can honestly offer it to them when you meet them in person, give them your card and a password or something and they're not allowed to say how the got it. I know that sounds ridiculous, but don't see why it wouldn't work; you can also have legal contracts, NDAs, moral rights, etc. if the artist wants to take it really seriously.
I think we're close to someone finding a new selling model though. You can likely make an algorithm that determines who would actually buy the art for art's sake rather than immediate resale using internet data. That'll be the day.

I can easily see a Dran fan buying a Sunset this morning and then seeing how much it was worth on ebay, then deciding to sell/trade it for an I Have Chalks or something (not looking at prices so maybe not that specific print, but you get the idea). Or to fund his/her education. Or pay a medical bill. Or buy something else they'd always wanted.
