Kunstrasen@CastleGalleryNI, by Deleted on Feb 17, 2015 9:00:07 GMT 1, I am late to the Kunstrasen party and this forum but not late to art in general. I have looked at the Castle Gallery website and cannot see how this is a good idea for the artist in terms of his career unless it is just a stepping stone, no offence to the gallery and the artist as there seems to be a large variety of commissioned works already. So what was broke that needed fixing? Maybe this is just designed to profit from the members here. Is this a good deal for all those who have got commissions from the artist already as it means prices will rise, which is why this has turned into a p'ing contest of who has the most Kunstrasens?
I'll explain why i believe this is a mutually beneficial partnership for Castle Gallery and Phil, i dealt mostly in the contemporary and traditional market for the first 10 years, I was then introduced to the urban market which at the time i had little knowledge of but was instantly drawn to so rather than try to sell a large variety of work and know little about everything i concentrated largely on 1 artist Banksy, for a few reasons, the obvious one...he's the most recognisable artist in this sector and secondly he's one of my favourite artists in this sector so, by concentrating mostly on him i've been able to build a very strong client list, i have some clients on this forum for sure but the majority are'nt members on the forum, i've also been able to build a solid reputation which will benefit the artists i work with alongside the client list. Now i had a decision to make , to start adding to the gallery stock list by buying in and consigning works by other already well established artists in the sector or start looking for newer enthusiastic talent who i feel i can work well with and help advance their career and Castle Gallerys reputation, theres already lots of galleries doing the aforementioned. Phil has the talent as an artist, i understand how to look after artists and advance their career in a natural and ethical way, we will help each other i believe, Phil will be able to concentrate on what he does best, creating art. The last few years all my time has been taken up with Banksy, a recent new staff member gives me extra time to devote to adding some new artists to the gallery, I've no intentions in moving away from irish art completely, thats what the gallery was built on and theres some great talent like Rosemary Gifford, Neil Shawcross, Emma Spence etc which is now being seen by a much larger audience which is fantastic.

Kunstrasen@CastleGalleryNI, by modelexit on Feb 17, 2015 9:57:37 GMT 1, Sorry to be such a cynic but I am just expressing my opinion. I simply don't get this. You are an artist and some of your works exhibit a lot more thought than this and with your skills could easily have made one yourself. Am i Missing something don't mean to come off as rude to you. I don't think it's rude at all. I appreciate civil discourse . Yes, I could have made these myself. I can also make myself Banksy canvases (which I do all the time ), but when I look at them, I know they aren't the real deal. I can easily make myself an Invader tile piece, but I'd much rather have one he made The artists in this case, Kunstrasen and Ernest Zacharevic, came up with these ideas, not me. I'd rather have a piece handmade by the person who's idea it was in the first place. I can go to my studio right now and make a Warhol soupcan if I wanted to, but I'd much rather have one he made (wouldn't we all?) (not that it really matters, but the "Destroy" piece was a gift - I didn't pay for it) as for your second post, I purchased these canvases because I liked them, not because I hoped they'd be worth money one day. Same as with everything I buy. I really don't like the business part of the art world. I try to ignore it as best I can. But Andy at Castle Gallery is a great guy, so I can only imagine good things happening from their new partnership I was referring specifically to the Destroy Graffiti piece but thanks for explaining.

Not my place to speak on behalf of Phil, he'll reply if he feels its appropriate. In relation to other artists there are plenty out there that consider themselves 'stencil artists' that dont put much up on walls. The genre has changed/evolved over the years and that's a whole debate in itself

Kunstrasen@CastleGalleryNI, by Extra Ball on Feb 17, 2015 13:44:21 GMT 1, Hi lha, I understand this reasoning, but it seems to me that at the base the first support is in the street (BOTI) and then comes the work in the workshop (original canvas and prints). but again, I consider this as really talented artist I own it myself some of this work. I really wish the best to this artist and he can still move forward with a gallery that will give it all means to flourish.

I agree, the I-have-this posts are annoying... but then people can't resist. You may see it as a pissing contest but it is not. But then your remark about pqst commissioned work is interesting, I guess Kunt and Castle are professional enough to know how to have the best partnership for both the artist and gallery.
