Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by Matt 2 ttaM on Aug 6, 2020 19:23:32 GMT 1, At times I wonder if it isnโt the same group of us collectors buying all the Banksy prints and variations in circles. With people upping prices on red herrings.
I mean, Iโve liked Banksy since the late 90โs but ignored copping anything as I didnt realize how available alot of his stuff has been and thus have come quite late to the party but am happy to have some authentic Banksy gear at home at last.
Also, alot of these higher prices appear to be place holders for the one off purchase, the going rates seem to be much lower for a lot of works.

I don't believe that is the case. Take a look at the summary from Sothebys following their last Banksy online auction in March 2020:
All but one of the 25 lots on offer found a buyer and more than 85 percent of lots exceeded their high estimates, according to the house. (Importantly, final prices include buyerโs premium and pre-sale estimates do not, putting the final hammer total within expectations.)
More surprisingly, almost half the buyersโ47 percentโwere new to Sothebyโs, and 30 percent of bidders (though not necessarily successful ones) were under 40 years old.
I can't see the demographic above overlapping that much with the "same group of us collectors" you mention. Unless you think that for some reason, the knowledgeable collectors on this forum decided to sign up to Sothebys for the first time to create record breaking auction results? I just can't see that being the case given all the other outlets to purchase his work.
I wish Sothebys provided a breakout of buyer by country. That would be interesting.

Legit points! By country would be great info and the only other thing Im curious about is whether new to Sothebyโs equates to new to Banksy. To clarify my earlier statement, it was more of an entertaining thought than anything serious, as some fans buy some items and other fans miss out on them for whatever reason and there can be a cyclical effect.
Eg. Fan-1 buys a few Peckham Rocks at cost from Museum that fan-2 misses, price goes up, fan-2 sees it wants to get one from fan-1 before price is out of reach, now fan-2 has spent his money for the time being, but fan-1 got 250 for it, fan-1 uses that and a little extra to buy a WOH box set from fan-3 who missed out on the Soup Can Poster, etc, etc.
Its farfetched to a large extent, but at the same time amusing if it wasnt.

So what is the value of a signed LIITA then?
The eternal unanswered question! One was touted around privately a few months ago but the prospective seller has stayed quiet about whether they sold or how much.
Publicly, one hasn't sold at auction for 3 years.
If you go by the unsigned price, then maybe 2x = ยฃ150k? but only 6 months ago ยฃ100k looked unobtainable...
The final answer.. it's worth as much as someone is prepared to pay and if there are two of them in the room at the same time, then that's a lot of money.
Assuming you can one find is the key!

Haven't seen a Flower Thrower /s for years... for a decent price.
They're almost in the "they don't exist" .. category. Mind you a QV/S used to be in that cat...

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by Frndly Fire on Aug 7, 2020 20:30:53 GMT 1, Anybody have any thoughts on the price of a Banksy Sydney Timeout Poster? Itโs numbered in pencil, and from an edition of 500. It wasnโt folded in the magazine, these were rolled in tubes and you had to collect from a gallery in Sydney.
I see a couple at galleries for $6.5k. Expressonbeans shows the last sale being for $1,500, but that was in 2013. There seems to have been a couple go at auction but I canโt see the prices.

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by alz303 on Aug 7, 2020 20:58:18 GMT 1, Hey. I managed to get a Banksy black spray can from the GDP sale. It's a great piece. I took a punt on the off chance I'd get one and actually own a Banksy. so very happy. Thing is in my nievety I didn't think it would be worth much, just a great thing to have. Then I noticed one up for sale for, well, a lot. I never intended to even think of selling but it could possibly get me out of a bit of a bind in my current circumstances. Any advice on what it's really worth? How do you even go about selling these? Any advice appreciated. I did also post this in another section and was kindly advised to post it here too. Thanks in advance

I had read somewhere that the early signed prints hadnโt sold as well to begin with so the stated edition numbers are always higher than the amount actually produced.
There always seems to be a steady stream of Girl With Balloon available, but not so many of the other earlier editions.

ยฃ50,000 - Walton Fine Arts (seems v.high) ยฃ42,500 - Graffik Gallery ยฃ41,000 - MyArtBroker ยฃ39,000 - Lougher Contemporary
Not sure what the 'current' price should be based on these and the demand for this piece.

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by therivler1 on Aug 11, 2020 13:48:43 GMT 1, yeah, in new zealand. As a yankee, I'm not used to other people using $
110 NZD = 72.7 USD = 55.4 GBP 78 NZD = 51.5 USD = 39.2 GBP.
Not sure if the quoted price is the hammer or includes BP.

From their site: N.B. 17.5% Buyers premium plus GST (20.12% total) on premium applies to all items purchased.
Almost think thats hammer and not with BP, because what number in normal bidding increments multiplied by 1.175 would give you 110,000.
