I agree with all of the above sentiment; it is indeed one of his best! The interesting thing with this first edition, and the value holding and climbing, is that it is a large edition for him sitting at 100 total pieces. The Glitter has 30 and the colored has 40. Besides Popeye (1st ed. - 140) and Calling Card (150), I don't believe he has any additional higher editions.
...and speaking of underrated, I love Calling Card. It is such an awesome print on that glossy stock. The hand finishing on it is plentiful, not overbearing, and thick. Plus it is still available at POW and a "steal" when comparing what has just been said above ($355 USD).

Although the different hand-finished variations are appealing, the composition as a whole seems flat and lacks depth. There's too much empty white space bordering the image that could have been better utilized. To be honest, I prefer the jumbled collages: they're inspired, well conceived -- and full of surprises. I always discover something new each time I look at Creme Fresh or The Nose. |

For sure, $625+ USD is about spot on right now - awesome piece.

I recall it being very ugly (when compared to the regular edition) which, for me, is very much a positive for a BAST. No idea where it is now though or I'd have a proper look at it..
Incidentally, this hand finished Popeye seems a bargain at ยฃ600 or so. He was making great work back then, much more so than the direction he has been following for the last five or six years which I've found to be quite awful. Rae used to seem a poor man's BAST but I'd say recent BAST is now a rich man's Rae. Sad times..

Had the same issue with that seller. Made multiple offers up to ยฃ700
I ended up paying ยฃ795 for one from a gallery.
After I bought it he was messaging me offering it for less.
Go cold on him and he may well come back to you.
It's been on eBay for ever!

I think I paid around ยฃ550 a year or two ago.
ยฃ550/600 would be a good price, but if you want one maybe you will have to pay a little more.

Definitely agree that this is a future classic but i'm not letting my heart rule my head, as keen as I am for a Bast piece i'll hold out for a better price.

I did in fact offer him ยฃ600 in the end, which I and it seems everyone else felt was a good and fair deal at the moment for one of these but he is shooting for the stars and i'm not the guy on this one.
