A thread for discussing which Banksy print you think is best and why ? Thought it would be interesting to see and hear members opinions. Post the image and write a little on why, artistically, you think it tops the rest.

I love that this references Dadaism and early agit prop and Political collage work from the likes of John Heartfeld to Kennard. It shows his knowledge of political art and is the one print where the artist seems to have injected some creativity in the process. Conceptually, one of his strongest prints in my opinion.

APART FROM THE OBVIOUS INNOCENCE OF THE PICTURE, IT WAS MORE A CASE OF WALKING PAST THE ORIGINAL EACH WEEKEND ON MY WAY FROM SEVERN SISTERS TO WHL FOR THE FOOTIE.
I SOMETIMES LOOK AT THAT BLANK WALL NOW AND WONDER WHY.....BUT ITS MORE MEMORIES FOR ME.

Additionally, the screen printing on Applause is wonderful. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as far as I know it was screen printed. It looks very pix-elated like it was done with a computer but it wasn't. The slightly different variations of grays and muted whites of the mechanisms on the jet and the ship, especially in the lower left corner just blow my mind. It is extremely well done which because of it's size I'm sure was no easy task. I don't know who did the printing of the POW release, it was a different print house than the LA version, but kudos to them. It's fabulous. |

It reminds me of the aircraft carrier scene in the Hot Shots movie.

My favourite print is barcode, love the image and for me banksy is having a go at consumerism and the leopard is dropping out of society (like a lot of us would like to do  and turning his back on it all? I'm probably wrong but that's my thoughts..

"Nola Girl with Umbrella appeared on a New Orleans wall when Banksy was there in 2008. On a gray background is a girl dressed in black, holding a black umbrella. Rain falls from the umbrella like spaghetti, but it is raining under the umbrella, not over the top. The girl holds out her hand to see if it is raining outside the umbrella.
There is a depressing feel to this work. In an interview, Banksy said that this stencil represents how things that are supposed to protect us can also hurt us. The girl is standing under the umbrella, a portable roof, but is getting rained on regardless. The umbrella should be protecting her from the rain, but it is instead its source. She is holding out her hand to see if it is like that outside the umbrella."

In my humble opinion, that image is so powerful and nuanced that it overshadows the rest of his commercial work by comparison. Whether you interpret it as a glorification of the American dream by those who realistically can't achieve it, or an anti-war image that depicts an America so obsessed with war that it chooses to value death and destruction over providing for its lower class, I think it maintains a power and relevance that will only grow as time goes on. Plus, while the paper stock is admittedly lacking, the execution serves to bolster and enhance the image and message. The grainy black ink against a stark silver sets forth creates a grainy mechanical atmosphere that perfectly represents the proletariat.

In reality there are too many images for me to have a 'Holy Grail' - every time i think of this subject my mind goes into over-drive. Truth is I would have any Banksy I could get but the ones I really like are
