TOWER, by saltandiron on Feb 22, 2008 16:04:49 GMT 1, I think they have great symbolism in what they portray and the fact they are carved from olive trees (as in the olive branch of peace)
the significance of using olive trees could also be that they once provided an income for many palestinians, but they have since been prevented from reaching their fields or simply had them uprooted as the Israelis say they give cover to militants launching rocket attacks.

TOWER, by James Smith 77 on Feb 22, 2008 16:09:24 GMT 1, I think these are incredible. IMO they summarize so much about the Ghetto and are witty as hell. There are only 22 in total. I would much rather have one of these than any print. Everyone will soon enough see these selling at Sothebys for 100K and change their minds.

If you'd shell out 100k for one of these then you have no mind to change.

TOWER, by BME on Feb 29, 2008 3:26:05 GMT 1, Absolute bargain IMO. Its a powerful piece that makes a comment about the dispossession of the Palestinian people and is strongly connected with the first overseas expedition by the Ghetto. Given that its possible to pay 12k for a signed flags from an edition of 121 then I think an original work for 8.2k is amazing.
and yes.. I have one...and no... I'm not selling.

Anyone know what was recently voted "the most influential modern art work of all time."?
Yep, that's right, a gentleman's urinal.
Seems like a few touches can make ALL the difference.

TOWER, by BONGO on Feb 29, 2008 10:42:23 GMT 1, BONGO DOES NOT THINK THE COMPARISON IS A TRULY VALID ONE, BUT CAN UNDERSTAND .
NEVERTHELESS, THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE OLIVE TREE IS MORE THAN JUST AN INCOME OR ACCESS ISSUE . BONGO UNDERSTAND THAT OLIVE TREES NEED YEARS OR DECADES OF NURTURING BEFORE THEY CAN PRODUCE ANY CROP, IF AT ALL. OLIVE TREES CAN BE CENTURIES OLD AND STILL PRODUCTIVE. BONGO UNDERSTAND THAT IN AN ARID AREA, THE OLIVE TREE IS NOT JUST AN IMPROTNAQT INCOME SOURCE, BUT IS ALSO HANDED DOWN ALONG FAMILY LINES FOR GENERATIONS - FOREFATHERS WILL HAVE NURTURED AND CARED FOR THE SAME GNARLED TREE
THE SIGNIFICANCE IS NOT JUST IN THE IMAGE, BUT IN THE MATERIAL USED.
MAKING TOURIST OBJECTS OUT OF THE FAMILY SILVER COULD BE VIEWED A SIGN OF DESPERATION
