eBay global shipping from UK question, by Rouen Cathedral on May 17, 2015 23:00:23 GMT 1, Hello all
So I seem to have no luck. I bought a great print and a great price and of course it comes damaged.
The seller is from the UK and used the eBay global shipping. So it got shipped to a distribution center here in USA and then to me. At least a that's how I understand it.
Anyway it looks like the tube it was shipped on was dented and that likely is cause of damage. Which of course is now up and down the whole middle of the print. The seller says he is going to look into the insurance of the shipping.
Anyone deal with this or have better knowledge. The print is basically ruined which is a huge shame cause it's a great print. Should I just return it? Do I have any other course of action.

I would assume so. I am however the buyer in the USA and the seller said he would look into it but it doesn't seem like he has experience. I am wondering if anyone here (from the UK) would know what indeed has to happen.

eBay global shipping from UK question, by 11 on May 18, 2015 1:59:08 GMT 1, In my experience, standard postal / courier insurance for art only covers loss and not damage. If the courier / insuring company collects the item and inspects it prior to packing & shipping then they will cover damage.
I could be wrong. An alternative to shipping it back would be to enquire about a paper / fine art restorer as a really good one can work wonders. We have Graham Bignell in the UK, I've used him when I had a crease through the centre of a print and it came back as good as new.
Get an inspection and quote from a reputable restorer - make sure they are highly recommended as you don't always get what you might expect - and then negotiate with your seller from there

eBay global shipping from UK question, by cerulean on May 18, 2015 4:53:43 GMT 1, I would contact Ebay directly. They offer buyer protection and the global shipping program supposedly covers damage since it's their shipper. Be sure to take plenty of photos of the packaging.

eBay global shipping from UK question, by Deleted on May 18, 2015 6:52:22 GMT 1, Global shipping covers insurance for full purchase price. However if you pay for insurance to the Global shipping center it's only covered to that destination. Then eBay insures it from them to you no matter what. That's the best benefit about the program is that everyone is covered in case of damage during transit.....
I would also love to hear from any UK buyers that have used the program. My main question is what are the positives and negatives of the Global Shipping program?
Thanks
Here is some helpful information Mate!

eBay global shipping from UK question, by Rouen Cathedral on May 18, 2015 13:25:03 GMT 1, Thanks for the advice.
I am trying to open a claim but cannot find anywhere to do so. The only option in eBay seems to be to return item.
Anyone dealt with this?

eBay global shipping from UK question, by andyroo0312 on May 18, 2015 13:55:44 GMT 1, I have had claims done thru the Ebay Global shipping program twice but each time it was the seller that had to initialise the claim. Always best to avoid that shipping program when possible. Claims always take longer thru the program compared to say USPS,AustPost and Royal Mail. On both occasions i got a full refund including postage for the damaged prints. I think they give a lot of refunds as they use a third party that do some of the worst packing you will see anywhere.. Good Luck..

Thanks for the message.
Can you share your order. I am assuming you are located in UK and the seller was is USA? does it matter which trio it was damaged.
For example seller is claiming that he got it safely to the USA distributors so it's out of his hands. And that the USA distributor damaged it.

For example seller is claiming that he got it safely to the USA distributors so it's out of his hands. And that the USA distributor damaged it. I am in Sydney. I have received damage prints from both UK & US and each time it is the seller that starts the claim and then normally I then have to take the tube and print to a main post office to be inspected then I am given a form to fill in that I then give back to the post office along with proof of value if it's over $1k ie a print out of a similar price on eBay or from a gallery etc then get a cheque from Australia Post. When you buy postal insurance you are paying for a service from the time the post office or courier takes charge of said item until they release the item via signature to its final destination regardless of who delivers the package. Like telecoms postal services rent, lease and have third party agreements with many other carriers. Just for the record down here I have ended up with the print and the money about 50% of the time which is always a nice bonus to offset the handful of grey hairs that pop up or off when dealing with such dilemmas
