Cut Print vs. Expensive Frame, by NN on May 22, 2015 13:12:08 GMT 1, Hi guys,
I just came back from the framer. I finally gave orders to frame this beauty here:
Aryz - Horizontal Decomposition.
The thing is, the print consists out of two prints á 51x71 cm. Now my framer, a really nice woman, suggested that there's the possibility to cut the 1cm at the top and 1cm on the left of the first and 1cm o the right of the second print to make it fit into 50x70 cm frames.
While I considered having 1 cm cut off the blank space, I obviously decided against it, fearing that there will be a big loss of value cutting the original print.
Now to my question. Is there a loss of value by cutting a print (if the original image is not altered by it)?
The frames costed me double the amount as a 50x70cm would have costed - so I guess that is a fair exchange in order to not loose value.

Cut Print vs. Expensive Frame, by trapnel1 on May 22, 2015 13:32:05 GMT 1, Now to my question. Is there a loss of value by cutting a print (if the original image is not altered by it)? I would say yes - that there is considerable loss of value through cutting the margins on a print.
However - that is only an issue if the print has significant value, and the overwhelming majority of the prints we admire here so avidly (and hopefully like to see on our walls) won't have significant value in 20 or 30 years time......

But seriously, check your framer if that was their suggestion - makes you wonder what materials they use if they have no regard for maintaining the original dimensions - she wasn't spraying a sheet of mdf with dry-mount glue as she was asking the question was she

Cut Print vs. Expensive Frame, by NN on May 27, 2015 12:55:42 GMT 1, You need to find a new framer, and fast. haha yeah, I think she was just trying to be nice on my budget, but I'll try to find a new one. There's only one other framer here though and that company is nuts - I bought an original 70x100 for around 600€. The frame 70x100 would have costed me (all standard IKEA chrome frame style with normal glass) would have costed me 450€ there. So I went for the IKEA one.
