Mose's post got me thinking and the more I think about it the more lobsided this deal would be. I have to agree, Parla's work is really amazing from concept to creation. I see him only growing as an artist and his influence will be felt for decades to come. I cannot bring myself to part with his work...

I have often made the Pollock comparison - watch the documentary Love and Death On Long Island. To me the reaction to Parlas work is along similar lines - I honestly believe the piece I own (which some of you know) is a major work of art. That may seem exuberent etc etc but it is my honest opinion. I would sell every other piece of art I own if it meant keeping this one. I bought an original copy of Life magazine from 1949 - the one that first brought Pollock to the mass US market and it is an amazing read and one that I honestly believe could be applied to Parla in 2008. Only time will tell. I'd love a Kate and could kick myself at the pieces from way back when that I let slip by, the same as many on here, hindsight is a wonderful thing as is having the cash at the right time. I was fortunate with my Parla piece and in many ways it makes up for missing out on the likes of Kate not through lack of awareness but purely through lack of spare cash. Both major artists both will have iconic pieces.

I am expecting a dive in Karma here as I know Parla is popular, I kinda like his stuff myself but come on...This must be the most overated artist at the moment ?

IMO Rene Gagnon rocks this style much better when it comes to squiggle Tags and suspended/Pendulum paint trails.

I mean just look..whats all the fuss about? Ohh a bit of Calligraphy, wow buy an ancient manuscript or some Ye Olde scroll.

To be blatantly honest....most of his stuff looks like the large advertising boards when kids have been pulling at the paste up

Picked a few random Parla's from his site

Basic. Bland. Boring. Blah. (my titles not his). It would take a 40ft shipping container of these for me to part with a Kate......Or a Reaper for that matter.

Mose. I like your reply. I must admit he is an artist I am not too familiar with, the old phrase 'Judging a book by the cover' comes to mind. But like I said there is 'something' that appeals to me...I will take some more time to familiarise myself with his work and try to look a bit deeper into the picture. +1

Why compare the two? they are both very credible artists and surely this is about personal choice. Lets face a few months back someone was trying to swap his CWSB for a Neate and there were no takers, I don't think it comes down to values IMO its all about if the image, if it captures you enough then Im sure you would to swap.
Its a shame that everything talked about nowadays is the value and nothing to do with the artistic mertit itself.

I would have the Parla on my wall any day over the moss.

Jose Parla, superb artist, his work in my humble opinion will evolve and get even better as he finds new depths within himself, as someone else has said already the resemblance between Parla and Pollack is quite striking, the press that pollack first recieved wasnt very flattering but he went from strength to strength. A kate for the right parla, as much as I love the kate image, there would be no contest. here is one of my favorite parla's

I think what Loucastel is saying is that from a compositional point of view there are some similarities. Parla's work is much more considered and well-thought out versus Pollock's random movements. I think you can argue how they each get from point A to point B. But I find it difficult to see how one can miss the comparison of the finished product. I think the differences in technique are what sets Parla apart. And I think these differences coupled with the end result is what will propel him to be considered one of the finest contemporary artists of our time as Pollock was/is considered in his.
