Signed BANKSY "Morons" #xx/150 - (& other lesser prints), by rebelate on Jul 2, 2015 7:55:01 GMT 1, Love the morons, I would be seriously interested since I've been looking for one locally in LA, but that price is way too rich for my blood. Good luck with the sale!

Pretty steep price it has to be said, but a good story behind it! She must be mad letting that go especially as it was gifted from the man himself!

Signed BANKSY "Morons" #xx/150 - (& other lesser prints), by rebelate on Jul 2, 2015 16:32:33 GMT 1, Letting go of the print isn't something that she's doing lightly, but at some point we all need some more wall space... As for the price, I believe she came to it based on a couple of things: 1: The gallery she works with from time to time has similar signed pieces currently being offered in the $20k-$30k range. 2: The only other signed Morons currently being offered is the less desirable sepia toned version which is an edition of 300 (as opposed to this print's run of 150), and has an asking price that's north of $16k (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Banksy-Morons-for-sale-/200600388730) 3: Parting with the print isn't an easy decision for her. As I said in the listing, please feel free to DM with offers if you're interested and I'll forward them to the owner, maybe she'll come down if she thinks an offer is fair... 1. I too believe there are many similar signed pieces being "offered" for 20-30K, especially galleries, however from everything I've seen on the net many are not selling, just being offered. As we all know, anyone can ask anything for a piece of art just like they can with real estate, how many days on the market is just as important as price tag. 2. There are 2 Sepias currently available from what I've seem on the forums, all in the $11-12K USD range but none selling. Surely the one on ebay has just thrown up a hefty price hoping for the best. Highly doubt it will sell for that price. 3. Understandable, it's a great piece. The frame although really cool, would probably need to be changed rather than kept once bought, it's massive and has a very specific look there's more chance that it won't match someones interior space then lets say a simple black or white frame. But I get the cleverness of the frame job.
Just a couple side notes. There are two unsigned LA version Moron's being shopped around. One is on still on the bay after multiple reductions from 3500 gbp then to 3000 gbp and didn't sell. I think someone on here was shopping it around for 4000 gbp then 3500 gbp and didn't sell. Yes these are unsigned, different ball park but there usually is a correlation between an image's unsigned counterpart and signed on, and its usually not 4 times that of the unsigned version.
Morons is by far one of my favorite prints released by banksy but may banksy collectors don't favor it for some reason (maybe the subject matter is too much of a wake up call haha), that on top of the fact that there are 5 different editions available (BW signed, Sepia Signed, LA signed, BW Unsigned, LA unsigned) make it a bit hard to compare it to other "similar similar signed pieces"
Weirder things have happened, I wouldn't be surprised if that piece sold via the gallery for asking in the time it took me to write this post but I also agree that it's priced too high like others have said. Either way cool story on how she got it and cool frame jobs GLWS!

Signed BANKSY "Morons" #xx/150 - (& other lesser prints), by Black Apple Art on Jul 2, 2015 18:40:44 GMT 1, To be honest his asking for this piece is pretty close to being spot on. Popular image, extremely rare and signed (less than 50 were signed from what I have gathered of LA show prints). You'd be hard pressed to find a signed print as rare for under $20k. Good luck with that piece...it's a gem.

Signed BANKSY "Morons" #xx/150 - (& other lesser prints), by rebelate on Jul 2, 2015 20:23:28 GMT 1, while I appreciate your opinion on the value of the piece I have listed for a friend at her asking price, I believe it would have been a little more appropriate to message me directly as opposed to publicly stating it... It's even a rule of the forum (11. In Sales Threads; please respect the Original Posterโs valuation. Whilst you may believe you have a valid opinion on what a sensible market value is, another memberโs For Sale Thread is not the place to debate the matter. If you have a differing view you should refer to the Price Check section and debate the matter there)... What I will take from your post, which wasn't rude or disrespectful (just wasn't necessarily cool), is that you like the print but not the price... That being said, perhaps there is another forum member who's opinion of the value of the most desirable version of this iconic signed Banksy print differs from yours.... You know. The whole "art is subjective" thing.
Totally understand where you're coming from. The fact that you were selling it for a friend is why I posted what I did. I miss read something in the thread thinking you were going to share the information back to original seller. Either way my bad, didn't mean to derail!

Gallery pricing sure! But will it sell? Why not find a buyer for it and take a 2-4k commission!

You come into every forum justifying insane prices that never sell, but good you're keeping up normal valuations mate.

My valuation on the last unsigned BH sale thread was $7k ..Which is right where it should be. If you find any recent sales of a LA signed Morons that contradicts please let us all know.
Last few Sepia Morons ed of 750 here on the board went for $11-12k. POW B&W version of Morons, ed of 150, last few I know of, went for around $14-15k between private sales and HangUp. So are you are saying the LA edition which is 3X as rare should be the same price...maybe less? I find using multiple real world sales, both low and high, make for the best gauge where fair valuations are, but just bitching and wishing it was less works too for some lol

Im saying using auction prices as references to what something should sell for isn't accurate. Clearly you didn't read what I had to say and you know the market better then anyone here.
