Martin Whatson - Why no print releases lately?, by Gunny on Jul 20, 2015 12:55:25 GMT 1, It seems like Martin Whatson had so many print releases last year, yet in the last few months, nothing. Is it because Graffiti prints are not releasing anymore, or is it because he was over exposed and his popularity seemed to be on the decline? Discuss

Martin Whatson - Why no print releases lately?, by natstan on Jul 20, 2015 13:54:39 GMT 1, It's actually a good thing that there aren't too many releases in a year from him. It's killing his career more than anything else if he keeps churning out mediocre images on print every 3-4 months. Also, as it is said, there really isn't anything else to tag and still look interesting (just saw a sports car tagged by him on instagram today coincidentally though - the tags look colorful and vivid but does nothing art-wise).

Martin Whatson - Why no print releases lately?, by tab1 on Jul 20, 2015 13:56:33 GMT 1, Maybe clearing found stock first As quite a lot keeps turning up at the printers after an edition is apparently sold out .
something planned for September as gp prints said recently a few prints planned for then?
Last year with so many new shows the constant releases could pass as supplied demand to new buyers and they would not be familiar with past works but if carried on at that pace themes become repetitive and may oversaturate the market
Other reasons for slow down on releases check past threads , a lot to read up on .
or maybe doing commission works again , last year wouldn't take any commissions as of so many shows
Lots of reasons , response by gp soon I suppose

That is completely separate to his work, being the most relevant issue (some would argue the only relevant issue).
Nevertheless, I am interested in what you mean by "stand up guy".
Stand-up guy on what basis? That he's good company and fun to share a few pints with? That he responds promptly to emails?

I happen to think he's a very talented artist and enjoy his work. By saying he's a stand up guy he's great to slam a few pints with, as well as he always responds to emails insanely quick. Much faster than most artist from what I've experienced. I was only offering my opinion. Everyone has their own taste

He's in danger of becoming a one trick pony - now to be fair he found a profitable niche and I don't really care if he milks it until it bleeds - there's worse ways to make money than banging out one idea endlessly.
Is he p*ssing his talent away - probably - but hey ho it pays the bills I assume.
To be fair - if I had an idea that was as popular as drawing coloured lines on things (go figure) I'd be bashing them out like there was no tomorrow as well.

He was also tagging butterflies and did his wall washer pieces pre 2010.
That's not to say that Martin did it first either.
