Jeff Koons ๐บ๐ธ Balloon Dog โข Sculpture โข Art For Sale, by ikeamonkey on Jul 16, 2009 21:45:34 GMT 1, An amazing show. It's surreal when you get there as it's a nice space that shows the true scale for many of these pieces. As some have stated above, it makes you really want to reach out and touch. Truely wonderful that Koons brings out the amusement I had when I was a kid with these works.

Jeff Koons ๐บ๐ธ Balloon Dog โข Sculpture โข Art For Sale, by Michael Jacob on Oct 16, 2009 15:06:36 GMT 1, i think its tough to put a value on it. its not part of an edition. its more of a keepsake from a fundraising event. Its a quick doodle with a signature. If I were at the event I would have paid $500 all day long. I wish we could have seen the larger vinyl it was cut from. Best of luck with your sale/trade.

Jeff Koons ๐บ๐ธ Balloon Dog โข Sculpture โข Art For Sale, by RPM on Oct 16, 2009 17:05:41 GMT 1, I think many are missing the point here with this piece. The piece is worth so much simply because it is an original โsomethingโ by Jeff Koons. That's it. It really doesn't matter that the sketch was done in 2 seconds or is not very detailed, etc. To most people (on this forum and the rest of the world) his art is beyond the realm of ever owning. This is an opportunity to own an original Jeff Koons (as opposed to an edition, which some people are willing to spend thousands on for other artists), at an extreme fraction of his normal prices.
Is it a fantastic piece of โartโ - personally, itโs not my cup of tea. But for what it is, I think the price is about right. If this were a signed doodle by Warhol, Basquiat, Haring, or even Banksy for that matter, this would be fetching way more.
Just my $.02. Good luck with the sale. I think this will find an appreciative home and make someone extremely happy.

Jeff Koons ๐บ๐ธ Balloon Dog โข Sculpture โข Art For Sale, by artstylee on Nov 15, 2009 22:15:03 GMT 1, I went to see the new Jeff Koons paintings at the Gagosian Gallery Los Angeles. Paintings were great/ gallery going experience was not.
Most of the security guards were nice and accomidating. Although 2 security guards for every one painting is a bit excessive though.
I turned a corner and noticed the arrow and text on wall stating that the exhibition continued upstairs. So I follow the 4 people ahead of me and proceed up the stairs with the other gallery goers.
The security (after facing up the stairs) then turns around and grabs me by both shoulders picks me out and stops me from going up the stairs to view the paintings.
I'm 27 and wanted to experience some culture, and ultimately got manhandled by in the process (while doing nothing different than any of the other gallery goers except being youthful with athletic build)
Taken a back, I go look at the 4-5 paintings on the main floor again, with intentions of going back up the stairs once there's less people up there or once this douche bag security changes posts. I hang around the corner until I see about a dozen (12) people come down. Nobody is there to go up the stairs except one other couple. So I turn the corner to go up the stairs again.
Following two people up the stairs, He lets them go and this guy seriously stops me again by grabbing me by the shoulders. and I say "it's still not okay now?..." and he tells me to wait. I bite my tongue because I'd actually like to view the works. So now he's 6 inches from my chest body-ing me up. He lightly backs off because Now there's 10-12 people stacking up waiting behind me trying to get up the stairs and he doesn't want everybody to see how aggressive he's being.
A couple tried to walk around me and the security guard and he stopped them too, for good measure, by simply telling them to stop and not touching them in the slightest. Then a few more people come Down the stairs and he reluctantly lets me go upstairs like a total a**hole. Then follows me up the stairs and stares me down while I take in/view the work.
(maybee they thought I was going to cartrain out on the koons stuff like cartrain did with hirst's pencils). although I would never consider such a thing(& love koon's work), this manner of treatment is the type of thing that makes one think in that fashion.
Does the Gagosian Gallery suck this hard worldwide? anybody have similar experiences?
When and if I do have millions to spend on an original koons or hirst. I'll will refuse to purchase anything from this gallery as in 10 years of going to gallery shows I've never felt so disrespected. And encourage my family friends who currently do have millions to do the same.
The scene is a bunch of aging fake rockstar hipsters who had very little interest in the paintings. They all were clicking up, & socializing, rarely even glancing at the monumental pieces surrounding them. (which is the most arrogant move ever - it implies that you already understand all of the art work around you to the point that you can dismiss and pay no attention to the artwork that brought you to the gallery in the first place.) Fakest Scene Ever - Seriously saw multiple guys who botox'ed their lips.
Being somebody who actually wanted to have an experience with these paintings through trying to fully understand them it's pretty irritating if there are security guards who would like to inhibit my ability to take in culture when great art arrives in LA.
Eventually all of Gagosians collectors will get old and fall off. Then they're going to need to look to the younger crowd where all the money will be. I for one won't be sending any of my money in the direction of that gallery.
They should really re-access the way they treat the younger crowd that attends their shows.
Left a bad taste in my mouth. There's a few books and prints I was considering grabbing, but, now, I seriously have no intention of ever purchasing anything from this gallery no matter what the cost.
The reality is that Koons and Hirst both want to appeal to(and associate themselves) with the younger art crowd by trying to create images on skateboard decks. Yet the gallery that represents them doesn't take kindly to the youthful art crowd attending their exhibitions.
Those who are in charge at the Gagosian should better allign their staff with the vision of their artist. If artists want young people to care about their art, then the gallery representing the artist's work should better accomidate the young crowd by treating them just like the Beverly Hills botoxed clowns that are pretending to care about their work.
They got the young crowd to like & care about their work, then their gallery won't allow you view the work without fitting into a 30-50 year old LA/Beverly Hills hipster mould.
Gagosian gallery better learn to accomidate the young gallery goers because eventually(in the next 10-20 years) we're the ones who are going to run everything.
If somebody at the gagosian reads this. The security guard is the only short/weak african american security guard with bad skin/acne that was working the show on saturday. Should get rid of him(primarily because he was short/weak and old) but mostly because he's making you guys look bad. Poor choice physically touching the gallery attendees no matter what age to gallery goer is.

Jeff Koons ๐บ๐ธ Balloon Dog โข Sculpture โข Art For Sale, by mose on Nov 16, 2009 2:43:57 GMT 1, You gave me pause when you stated that Koons paintings were great. Well, pause and made me spit out the water I was drinking. I personally think Koons' paintings are atrocious.
I've actually had nothing but great experiences at Gogosian in NYC(Chelsea locations).
Honestly, I don't think Gagosian will ever have to come to 'us'(meaning younger collectors). We will gladly go to him when our time is right.

Jeff Koons ๐บ๐ธ Balloon Dog โข Sculpture โข Art For Sale, by justsomeyank on Nov 16, 2009 15:59:43 GMT 1, I go by the rule that by the time an artist has hit huge galleries like the Gagosian, their best work is behind them. Those exhibitions attract either social ladder-climbers or casual gawkers. Nothing wrong with it, but just understand you're not entering a museum, it's a business that caters to multi-millionaires, and if you're not one they'd rather show you the door. I'd assume some level of elitism is expected when you walk through their doors.
Personally, I can't imagine there's a Jeff Koons work made post-2000 (or 1990 for that matter) that's worth being bullied around by a security thug, but to each his own.

Jeff Koons ๐บ๐ธ Balloon Dog โข Sculpture โข Art For Sale, by artstylee on Nov 16, 2009 23:13:55 GMT 1, Personally, I can't imagine there's a Jeff Koons work made post-2000 (or 1990 for that matter) that's worth being bullied around by a security thug, but to each his own.
That's exactly what I thought when I left- if I had known I would have been gripped up by security to see 4 paintings upstairs I would have not even bothered coming out at all.
Seriously I hardly wanted to be there. First and Last time. Had to fight traffic for the experience too.
Just killing time until the Juxtapoz 15th Aniversary show/auction benefit that night at some sick banksy LA show style wherehouse on Factory Street(one of the better shows I went to in 2009). Amazing large orignal Robert Williams piece, beautiful Josh Keys original, kindey wiley print, choe hendrix, shep fairey original, nice Kofie One. + they showed the Manny Pacquiao Cotto Pay Per View fight projected onto a wall too.
Grabbed the last 6 months of Juxtapoz mag. Free Drinks/Burgers/Cupcakes. This broad from MTV's real world Las Vegas was bartending pouring everybody tequilla shots (kind of sad a little for her) Excellent Show Overall.
No food or drink at gagosian.
Juxtapoz New Brow Art Movement +1/Gaygosian douche art -1
On the koons not being great - Yeah these were abstract and not like his usual stuff. Huge Almost Abstract Non Representational paintings, but then there was sort of an optical illusion that made the image come into focus revealing that indeed it is a representional painting with some naked broads in the background broken up into color dots like a roy lichtenstein painting (kind of fun to look at from different distances) , and I just respect any time somebody/some people put alot of work & paint on a canvas that large. 10ft+. but give me 12 shepard fairey originals any day before anything from the gaygosian.
Personally, I can't imagine there's a Jeff Koons work made post-2000 (or 1990 for that matter) that's worth being bullied around by a security thug, but to each his own. Juxtapoz New Brow Art Movement +1/Gaygosian douche art -1 On the koons not being great - Yeah these were abstract and not like his usual stuff. Jeff Koons ๐บ๐ธ Balloon Dog โข Sculpture โข Art For Sale, by jamesreeve5 on Nov 17, 2009 1:58:22 GMT 1, Unfortunately that is simply the art culture. Perhaps it was the way you were dressed? Gagosian hires security guards to protect HIS works (because they are all Gagosian's responsibility before they are sold). Considering that people on this forum are so touchy about preserving their own art (the combined likes of which might not equal the $20 million or so that the entire Koons show was worth), don't you think it's really not too much to expect security guards?
My advice, don't go to openings to look at art. Go to openings to drink for free, do drugs, hit on beautiful women, and try to get laid. You are just there for the party and you are no better than all of those "aging fake hipsters" that you spoke of. The art will be there for everyone to enjoy for another few weeks. I'm sure there is a Saturday afternoon you could have the gallery to yourself to enjoy.

All I can say is I've purchased a few photos from Gagosian and have to say that they have been extremely nice and good to me. I'm very small potatoes compared to their big clients so was actually a bit surprised, but have never had a bad experience with them.

James from LA you don't know what you're talking about. Perhaps it's because I've actually lifted a weight or worked out in the last year that they thought I was there to mash up paintings.
Tell me not to go upstairs and wait is fine, but there is no need to physically touch me in order to stop my progression up the stairs. One time okay I can deal with that- two times is way out of line.
As I said before there were "No Free Drinks" if that's what you go to shows for. How much is a bottle of liquor or a drink? you broke fool. I was driving and couldn't drink anyways.
You're correct, I'm not better or worse than those "aging hipsters" it's about fair treatment no matter who you are. and the reality is that I wasnt't treated fairly. And certainly wasn't wearing anything to stand out.
Don't post just to get your post numbers up - especially when you identify with/& defend the "aging hipsters" I mentioned above. a pity. go do your drugs you loser.
