BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dr Plip on Aug 26, 2015 21:34:47 GMT 1, It's one of those shows that needs to be attended for sure. The atmosphere is part of the art. I will load up the spoiler thread with photos. Seeing the same photos repeatedly is ruining it. Im already sick of seeing it. im just going next week to steal a rubber duck, sod it. By next week there'll be one duck floating around.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Coach on Aug 26, 2015 21:34:31 GMT 1, Ok, I can't be there, but from the photos I have seen I'm not that impressed with Dismaland. Of course you might say the whole point is to be disappointed but I feel it looks a bit like a wasted opportunity for what could have been a really special Art event, thinking back to the Cans Tunnel and Bristol Museum shows. Seeing the images and news reports on TV made it look a bit less like a real art event and more like some kind of "Grumpy Old Men" theme park. I think it's edged into being more a political "Grumpy Old Men" than what could be seen as a Art event. Sorry, just my opinion.
Honestly, it's brilliant. There have been few photos of the galleries, which are fabulous. Then there are the different tents, vans, libraries etc which again are great. The attractions/games are a tiny part of it. It would have been worth the trip just to see the Cauty model village. I could go on and on. It's far better than any art show I've ever been to before. As has been said by others, photos tell only a tiny fraction of what it's like to be there.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dr Plip on Aug 26, 2015 21:44:00 GMT 1, Like Coach said, the photos just don't do the work justice. The Cinderella piece for example, the still images are nowhere near as impressive or disturbing as it is "in person".
And yeah, I thought I knew what to expect with the Cauty diorama, but wow, It's just huge and amazing. You could spend an hour looking at just that.
I think the whole place was just brilliant. And it's such a clever way to get, not just the art anoraks in, but a lot of the general public and exposing them to ideas and themes that they might not usually want to think about.
Some might go away thinking it's just ripping off Disney, but hopefully some (a lot) will take more from it. It was great seeing kids asking their parents questions about the works. Some of the answers weren't great, but I commend Banksy and all the artists for coming up with a great way of getting these messages across to people. And you can have fun while you're there.
I had an absolute ball there. And if I die in the next few weeks, I'd like my corpse left on one of the rides at Dismaland.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by leecd on Aug 26, 2015 22:52:46 GMT 1, Really excited to see they have added a Schools tab to the Dismaland website. I'm going to try my best to take a group of 20 Chd I take for grafitti club after school. Just need to get the nod from the Head and parents as they are aged 7-10 but I know they would love it.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by shavenhobo on Aug 26, 2015 23:02:03 GMT 1, Just got back. Was an awesome show but take lots of cash as I had to step out and quick match up the prom to get some. Was a lovely day, sunny and WSM seems like a nice place. Work wise there are some really strong pieces and some filler. Thought the side shows would be more fun but the atmosphere is really exciting. Loved the music and Jenny Holzer sound piece. They had run out of balloons when I went and the spanner set. Riot shields were £600 and they look frickin awesome, no decent prints left from what I could see atm. Worth going to, not mind blowing but strangely fun with some great pieces. Immigration tent was hard hitting.
Also not that I entertain flipping they didn't check my ID which I was pretty annoyed about but all security seemed really nice.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Hubble Bubble on Aug 26, 2015 23:19:12 GMT 1, I'm just back from tonight's show (well, staying over in WSM actually). Went with my eldest (Uni age) daughter Who was in awe of the whole thing.
My thoughts -- AMAZING... a true visionary at work, supported by incredibly powerful lieutenants.
Sell a kidney if you have to but, whatever you do, get a ticket.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Coach on Aug 26, 2015 23:40:05 GMT 1, I agree and have done the same with both of mine. Even though been told off by security a few times! They should really encourage children to watch and take part of art. In many ways. It would be amazing if Dismaland had a 'kids day only' entrance for adult o n l y, if they have at least five kids with them. Or only open for schools. Oh happy days.
You suggested it, and now it has happened!!

And it wud make my year if the school packs they hand out to the kids had a personal memento signed by Banksy. Not even the most greedy tw*t would want to offer money for one or admit they'd bought one.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Lroy on Aug 27, 2015 6:43:30 GMT 1, Like Coach said, the photos just don't do the work justice.
I think ( like Plip ) that it's like concerts, horse races, football match, festivals, etc... It's when you are in that you see and feel really the " Thing " ... Sounds and vision ... Here , you are in Banksy's belly ! Wow !
edit : like to see per example Le Mont-Blanc in postcard and to be at his feet ( I did not say on your knees ;-)

I had an absolute ball there. And if I die in the next few weeks, I'd like my corpse left on one of the rides at Dismaland.
