BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Lroy on Aug 27, 2015 6:47:56 GMT 1, Quality, political grumpy old men featuring school field trips... damn lucky kids is all I've got to say! Sorry @silky, cudn't resist, love you but haven't got a clue where you're coming from. And it wud make my year if the school packs they hand out to the kids had a personal memento signed by Banksy. Not even the most greedy tw*t would want to offer money for one or admit they'd bought one. I have to disguise now myself, as a school kid, with a bullet puller out my back pocket, a school uniform, a tie and a cap, with my schoolbag and candy traces around my mouth ;-)

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by securityman on Aug 27, 2015 7:15:12 GMT 1, Did you know.. The ice cream truck they are selling programmes from is the same one from Banksy vs Bristol Museum, minus the ice cream cone on top #uselessfactoftheday It was also used to sell popcorn at the tunnel screenings of his movie. And Glastonbury 2010 in the park

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Schrödinger's Chat on Aug 27, 2015 7:56:04 GMT 1, Well that was a crazy day! Drove from Brighton to Weston and back yesterday, 360 mile round trip but it was worth every minute.
We were at Dismaland for about 2.5 hrs and it was brilliant, could have done with double the time to really enjoy everything, there were a whole bunch of short films showing that we didn't have time to watch but looked ace from what I did see.
Agree with others that it was so good to see all walks of life enjoying a really unique experience. I must have heard three or four people saying 'i don't get it' about some of the pieces but at least they were prepared to have a go, and hopefully left Dismaland a richer person as a result of their experience.
Would well recommend going, it's a great concept well executed, and is very experiential. As you become a part of the art installation itself, it really starts to play on your mind and I found that it sent my head whirring with questions and thoughts about the world we live in, and that my daughter's are growing up in. Good thoughts and really dismal ones!

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by searchandrescue on Aug 27, 2015 8:24:40 GMT 1, Like Coach said, the photos just don't do the work justice. The Cinderella piece for example, the still images are nowhere near as impressive or disturbing as it is "in person".
And yeah, I thought I knew what to expect with the Cauty diorama, but wow, It's just huge and amazing. You could spend an hour looking at just that.
I think the whole place was just brilliant. And it's such a clever way to get, not just the art anoraks in, but a lot of the general public and exposing them to ideas and themes that they might not usually want to think about.
Some might go away thinking it's just ripping off Disney, but hopefully some (a lot) will take more from it. It was great seeing kids asking their parents questions about the works. Some of the answers weren't great, but I commend Banksy and all the artists for coming up with a great way of getting these messages across to people. And you can have fun while you're there.
I had an absolute ball there. And if I die in the next few weeks, I'd like my corpse left on one of the rides at Dismaland.
won't be attending, but thanks for your thoughts.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by barryh on Aug 27, 2015 8:59:25 GMT 1, Ok, I can't be there, but from the photos I have seen I'm not that impressed with Dismaland. Of course you might say the whole point is to be disappointed but I feel it looks a bit like a wasted opportunity for what could have been a really special Art event, thinking back to the Cans Tunnel and Bristol Museum shows. Seeing the images and news reports on TV made it look a bit less like a real art event and more like some kind of "Grumpy Old Men" theme park. I think it's edged into being more a political "Grumpy Old Men" than what could be seen as a Art event. Sorry, just my opinion.
How you can judge and immersive experience, from behind a keyboard I really don't know. Nearly everyone that attends, wants to go back for a 2nd or 3rd time. Luckily there seems to be a few people with your thought process, otherwise it would be even harder to get tickets

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by tezpellet on Aug 27, 2015 9:18:50 GMT 1, yesterday was amazing,
i went alone with a spare ticket, after the 3 hour drive in (Removed)ial rain, I arrived at 12pm, the queue was a lot bigger than i thought it would be ! there was a couple of people hanging around the back of the queue which, (by this stage) was by the ticket booth peopel at the booth had been there since 0730 possibly earlier, with the hope of bagging one of the 200 on offer that morning, (which later on wasn't the case)
I asked one or two people if they where looking for a single ticket and if they where on their own ? Within no longer than 2 mins one of the staff members, (early 40's female quite skinny) was over like a shot "Do not buy 2nd hand tickets, you will not gain admission" she exclaimed. "i'm not selling it" i politely pointed out, to which she looked a tad confused and off she went. I shouted at the front of the ticket queue would anyone like a free ticket, i then joined the online ticket queue and wondered why no one took me up on my offer ? anyway... One Canadian or American man pushed his way over to me, he was very large, very loud and very adamant that he could buy my ticket off me for £50, he then offered me £75 for it, I asked if he was alone to which he said no he was with "the wife" as he said that another chap turned up and also asked if i had a ticket, he was on his own looked tired as he had been there most of the morning and was a fellow northerner like myself. I gave my new pal the ticket for free, you can keep your £75 thanks. anyway
I tried my best to keep away from any pictures on the inter web of course, you cant not see any of it but, WOW what a show ! Yes the Banksy work is great but its so much more then him, (how selfless) The Dismaland workers really do steal the show, when you go, interact as much as you can with them, I really didnt expect as much artwork as there is, the Jimmy Cauty installation is just phenomenal.
It was a shame that the Cinderella photo thing wasn't working properly. but.... Other highlights for me where Ze Frank "Teddy has an operation" on the big screen ! michael beitz sculptures, Lush, huda beydoun, Jessica Harrison, Lee Madgewick, Paco Pomet and Caroline McCarths Plant pots, again genius.
After such a long time trying to get tickets for the whole day last week only to find it was a waste of time is, after yesterday well in the past id go again if i can be as lucky, to get another ticket for the nighttime as im sure it adds another dimension to the experience,
Beg borrow steal to get a ticket, queue if you have to just go its well worth it and people will be talking about it for years to come and on an international scale !

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by ABC on Aug 27, 2015 9:33:03 GMT 1, ^^ Agree, the Caroline McCarths Plant pots were amazing. A youngster tried to touch one of the pots trying to work out if they were paper, the staff just shouted "Oh, get your hands off" not sure what the kid thought but he just skulked off.

The staff are fantastic and some of them are real comedy gold. I hope they're appreciated.
When I went to get my photo taken with the Cinderella piece, it wasn't working and when I asked why, a member of staff just said "It's not working, go away".
So many visitors weren't getting the joke and I saw a few people looking quite confused and disgruntled by the attitude of the staff. One woman actually tried to stop me from playing the anvil game, because "Don't give them your money, they're cheating. You know you can't win, don't you?". I then threw the balls at the anvil, then as each one bounced off, I turned to the woman and said "I think they might have nailed them down", "I think I moved it that time" and "Oh! Nearly!"
She looked at me like I was an utter idiot. I loved it.
Great show. I've never had so much fun and in such a unique way.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Wearology on Aug 27, 2015 9:56:34 GMT 1, I am in the UK and ready to dance in the streets of WSM. Counting the hours until tomorrow night's show. Thanks again to a very generous forum member who helped me secure a ticket. The forum community came through for me in a way that I thought was gone for good. It's cold & rainy in London - but who really cares.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Coach on Aug 27, 2015 10:11:50 GMT 1, I am in the UK and ready to dance in the streets of WSM. Counting the hours until tomorrow night's show. Thanks again to a very generous forum member who helped me secure a ticket. The forum community came through for me in a way that I thought was gone for good. It's cold & rainy in London - but who really cares.
That's wonderful. You will love it Wear!! Have a great time during your stay on our little island. When do you go back? Are you traveling anywhere else whilst you are here?
