BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Coach on Aug 27, 2015 10:13:28 GMT 1, yesterday was amazing, i went alone with a spare ticket, after the 3 hour drive in (Removed)ial rain, I arrived at 12pm, the queue was a lot bigger than i thought it would be ! there was a couple of people hanging around the back of the queue which, (by this stage) was by the ticket booth peopel at the booth had been there since 0730 possibly earlier, with the hope of bagging one of the 200 on offer that morning, (which later on wasn't the case) I asked one or two people if they where looking for a single ticket and if they where on their own ? Within no longer than 2 mins one of the staff members, (early 40's female quite skinny) was over like a shot "Do not buy 2nd hand tickets, you will not gain admission" she exclaimed. "i'm not selling it" i politely pointed out, to which she looked a tad confused and off she went. I shouted at the front of the ticket queue would anyone like a free ticket, i then joined the online ticket queue and wondered why no one took me up on my offer ? anyway... One Canadian or American man pushed his way over to me, he was very large, very loud and very adamant that he could buy my ticket off me for £50, he then offered me £75 for it, I asked if he was alone to which he said no he was with "the wife" as he said that another chap turned up and also asked if i had a ticket, he was on his own looked tired as he had been there most of the morning and was a fellow northerner like myself. I gave my new pal the ticket for free, you can keep your £75 thanks. anyway I tried my best to keep away from any pictures on the inter web of course, you cant not see any of it but, WOW what a show ! Yes the Banksy work is great but its so much more then him, (how selfless) The Dismaland workers really do steal the show, when you go, interact as much as you can with them, I really didnt expect as much artwork as there is, the Jimmy Cauty installation is just phenomenal. It was a shame that the Cinderella photo thing wasn't working properly. but.... Other highlights for me where Ze Frank "Teddy has an operation" on the big screen ! michael beitz sculptures, Lush, huda beydoun, Jessica Harrison, Lee Madgewick, Paco Pomet and Caroline McCarths Plant pots, again genius. After such a long time trying to get tickets for the whole day last week only to find it was a waste of time is, after yesterday well in the past id go again if i can be as lucky, to get another ticket for the nighttime as im sure it adds another dimension to the experience, Beg borrow steal to get a ticket, queue if you have to just go its well worth it and people will be talking about it for years to come and on an international scale ! The staff are fantastic and some of them are real comedy gold. I hope they're appreciated. When I went to get my photo taken with the Cinderella piece, it wasn't working and when I asked why, a member of staff just said "It's not working, go away". So many visitors weren't getting the joke and I saw a few people looking quite confused and disgruntled by the attitude of the staff. One woman actually tried to stop me from playing the anvil game, because "Don't give them your money, they're cheating. You know you can't win, don't you?". I then threw the balls at the anvil, then as each one bounced off, I turned to the woman and said "I think they might have nailed them down", "I think I moved it that time" and "Oh! Nearly!" She looked at me like I was an utter idiot. I loved it. Great show. I've never had so much fun and in such a unique way.
Yeah, I'm convinced that they glued them down

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dibbs 45 on Aug 27, 2015 10:35:21 GMT 1, I have to agree with most comments on here about how good this show was and is. I got there Thursday and watched the local people go in whilst sipping a coffee on the sidelines. Everyone was genuinely excited and not an empty tube carrier in sight in the queue. There were families, couples and everyone seemed content to be part of the enormous sprawling queue. Myself and two other forum members sat on a bench opposite and watched events unfold, as TV crews got the local angle from members of the public, and elderly gent draped in union jacks canvassed for support on the closing of a local pier. This was all part and parcel to the build up of this show and where best to start it by giving it to local people.
I couldn't wait to get in and soon after we were discussing all this in Wetherspoons. We were also discussing who's round it was next, after meeting up with other Forum members, who were today real people for once and not keyboard commentators with daft names (easy tiger) on here. The sun was out and my bald head was getting burnt and the anticipation grew. Yep it was dismal.
Later by good fortune our crowd got into the PV, due to good forum members helping others (you know who you are) out and skilled negotiations and invites. What followed after that was but a blur. Carefully selected artists that enhanced the theme of the show dramatically and to wit the burning of a Jeffrey Archer book was of course just one of many highlights. And what a place to go to get free pizza.
The show wasn't about prints. Let me repeat that the show was not about prints. No one mentioned this at the show as it was irrelevant to the spectacle that is Dismaland. As others have said this needs to be experienced first hand. Good photos may give a glimpse of it but this is only half the story. Those who want to curate shows should go along to see how its done with backing and money. Its been over a week now that I went and I am still buzzing from it. Not many shows have that impact.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by morgan on Aug 27, 2015 10:39:21 GMT 1, Very easy to get the ones for myself when I can go next month on the 4th. My buddy lives there and I went ahead and grabbed him ones for the run the jewels night just in case I can transfer them to him and his wife. Anyone know if just the print out is needed or do I have to be there in person that day?
Glad it seems to be so smooth. Cheers

Looking forward to going next Tues!! Can anyone recommend a decent chippy round there?

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by pug on Aug 27, 2015 11:20:16 GMT 1, Adding to the speculation about who 'the local band' is on the 18th, I am speculating that it is going to be Portishead as Geoff Barrow releases Sleaford Mod's stuff on Invada (damn good sale on their site by the way) and Savages have opened for them in the recent past, if not Portishead then I go for Beak.
