Alexander McQueen at The V&A, by Hubble Bubble on Jul 30, 2015 19:51:46 GMT 1, It's kind of late now but I went to see the McQueen exhibition at The V&A today. The most stunning exhibition I've ever seen in any form of art. A man of breathtaking genius. Truly, truly amazing vision and artistry in a field I knew nothing about but learned a huge amount. If anyone fancies it and gets the chance - it's long sold out and now running 24 hours a day to try and satisfy demand until it closes in a few days - then do whatever you do to grab a ticket.
Anybody else manage to see it?

Alexander McQueen at The V&A, by Deleted on Jul 31, 2015 15:19:02 GMT 1, Got invited to the opening night so was too busy star sporting but got another invite when it was less busy.
Such an amazing show. Hadn't realised how good he was until I saw the designs up close. Definitely going to go again before it ends, but at this rate it looks like they should just make it a permanent exhibition!

Alexander McQueen at The V&A, by 10th Mountain on Jul 31, 2015 17:57:02 GMT 1, One of the best things I have ever seen at the V&A. The exhibits are not really clothes, but fantastic works of art. His tailoring skills that he demonstrated early on were inspired. Not a real follower of fashion at this level but this was not to be missed. I have tried to encourage all I know to see it, as it may never be in one place again. Worth every effort to go. Ieven bought the book, as you really do not want to forget what you saw. My highlight was the white dress sprayed green and black during his live show. A wonderful thing. Back to 501s' now

Alexander McQueen at The V&A, by met on Aug 1, 2015 3:52:06 GMT 1, It's kind of late now but I went to see the McQueen exhibition at The V&A today. Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty is exceptional, and it's a pleasure to see it being discussed here.
I understand why people have been flying into London from abroad just to visit the show. It's worth both that committed effort and the cost of a flight with hotel accommodation. The central room of the exhibition is a proper sensory-overload experience.
For those with any interest whatsoever in fashion, tailoring, theatre or performance art, Savage Beauty is what Banksy vs Bristol Museum was for street art. Or what the world tour and unsentimental final farewell by Sylvie Guillem, Life in Progress (currently at the London Coliseum), is for lovers of choreography and dance. To miss it would be shameful, if not criminal.
And for others here falling outside of the above category — who simply love fine art, or design, or contemporary culture, or history, or zoology — consider it still a must-see.
Unfortunately, the show finishes Sunday night and advance tickets are sold out. But at least 200 tickets per day are still being sold each morning at 10 a.m. Here's the website blurb:
"Advance tickets for Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty are now sold out.
Tickets are available to purchase at the V&A on day of visit; a minimum of 200 tickets will be available each day. These tickets go on sale when the V&A opens at 10.00, but you are advised to arrive at the Museum earlier for the best chance of purchasing a ticket. The ticket queue outside the main entrance on Cromwell Road is currently starting at around 08.00 each morning."
If you're thinking of choosing this route, for this final weekend I'd advise turning up earlier than 8 a.m.
Better yet, become a V&A member (online or at the venue) since members can enter without tickets. The yearly cost for a standard membership is £64, or £84 for the ability to bring along a guest.
You'll need to collect a temporary membership card first, but that will also allow you to attend very late or very early (10 p.m. to 5 a.m.), when fellow visitors are often more fun and the queues are less herd-like. [Note that the exhibition apparently shuts for cleaning between 5 a.m. and 8.30 a.m.]
