How to stop poster sliding behind mount, by met on Aug 8, 2015 18:02:38 GMT 1, First comment: If the poster has sentimental or financial value and you don't want to damage it, please do not use an Ikea frame.
Maintaining the existing condition of the piece appears to be an issue for you. And on this particular front, cheap frames from Ikea are seriously unwise choices. A basic Google search with key words like "framing poor materials techniques damage" will give you more than enough information to read on the subject.
As for affixing your poster, consider large polypropylene (i.e. acid-free / archival) framing corners from Lineco, measuring 76mm in length and width, and with the added advantage of being full view. The latter means less of the poster needs to be covered by a mat if you wish to hide the corners.
See product code 533-0037 (£9.84 for a pack of 100, which in my view is excellent value):

How to stop poster sliding behind mount, by natstan on Aug 9, 2015 5:33:14 GMT 1,
I actually thought of a pretty secure method of securing a print behind a window mount without any adhesives or poster corners. Take a piece of acid free paper and cut into 4 rectangular strips according to the size required. Fold one end of the strip along the edge of the back mount (which should normally fit snugly into the frame) to the back and repeat for all 4 sides. If needed, tape down the folded part to the back of the back mounting paper. Then fold the other end (where it holds the print) into a V-shape at the front so it holds the print at the edges with a bit of allowance for slight paper movement (the v groove holds the print in place but leave just enough overlapping without the paper strip showing through the window). Cover back up with the window mat and the back corrugated pvc backing board and voila - archival framing without any adhesives.
Works extremely well for large prints, especially since poster corners may not do the job. Note that you do need a bit of border or window overlap at the edges for this to work though. But anyway, you do need to ditch that ikea window mount if you want your poster to come to no harm!
