To think, just to own 1 of those pieces...Broad has 2,000 (!) in his collection and they are stored in the museum which doubles as a fancy locker room of sorts...also, the Kusama Infinity Room was epic:

Made it to a preview on Saturday, and an incredible collection of modern / contemporary works on display (the free in-n-out helped too) - Eli was definitely proud to be touring people around. The architecture itself is stunning - the viel on the exterior, and how it allows the reflected natural light into the 3rd floor museum space, and the "oculus" providing additional depth to the exterior. It's also interesting to be able to view inside the storage space from multiple places, to see some of the artwork staged inside (including more large Rauschenberg, Condo, Wool, Basquiat, etc.).
By the way, during the first week of the museum's opening (at least this is the duration I was told), if you take your free Broad ticket to Moca across the street, you'll get a free one-year Moca membership - took us about 30 seconds to receive.

His collection is truly astounding. And considering what I have heard is that only 15% or so is on display, can't wait to see how the exhibit revolves (nice aspect that it is free admission going forward).

All and all a truly amazing thing being one man's personal collection, with a good portion of the works being absolutely massive. As far as a museum goes, pieces seemed to range from the "WTF" abstracts to popular names most here have seen plenty of. Still thrilled it is a 20 min walk from me and I'm sure there will be many great exhibitions to come. My personal preferences aside, it is fantastic to have something like the Broad downtown and available for the general public, whom most have probably never been exposed to anything like it.
BTW If you are not going to make it any time soon there is a free Broad Museum App now available that gives a tour of every piece along with detailed facts and descriptions for a full virtual tour.
