and canaletto wasn't cutting stencils
anyone can cut stencils that have been "drawn" by a computer and one can even find companies who cut the stencils for them.
I agree the artist is looking for a certain effect and to get that effect modern technology saves a lot of time.
but is it just like painting by numbers?
or scenery painting,
