Jean-Michel Basquiat ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn, New York โข Graffiti Art , by LJCal on Oct 2, 2020 19:54:05 GMT 1, I like some his work, mainly his large paintings but a lot of it is garbage. I canโt for the life of me figure why his estate keeps releasing really weak images and not some of his more iconic painting reproductions.

Jean-Michel Basquiat ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn, New York โข Graffiti Art , by marcomax on Oct 5, 2020 22:56:24 GMT 1, Iam thinking of selling my copy of Jean-Michel Basquiat. LโOeuvre Peint. Catalogue Raisonne. 2 Volumes in Slipcase Published by Galerie Enrico Navarra, Paris, 1996. A very rare book and the most comprehensive catalogue of the artist's work. Good condition, some signs of aging. On the web you can find some for sale at prices around 2000.- dollars.

I am looking specifically for ones that he was alive for - I know of the Yvon Lambert one and the Galerie Delta one, but I'm sure I'm missing some good ones.
Thanks in advance!

A few years ago they still had some of the original posters from 1988 left. Luckily I bought one back then.

How can you tell the difference between the original and the now available reprinted offering?

They are probably identical so youโd need the YL document as provenance that you bought from the first run of posters at the cheaper price

The last copies of the first run were all in good condition, having been in storage at YL for years - I've seen other first run examples being sold in auction that have been kicking around/framed in quite poor condition.....

Luckily I bought one back then. How can you tell the difference between the original and the now available reprinted offering? With these types of things, you have to be super careful. It's almost better to end up with a "real" fake that's been upgraded and pushed through some well known and legitimate houses than buy a real that might aswell be fake because it has 0 actual provenance. With these types of ephemera, provenance is everything and hard to prove. Same issue that alot of Banksy stuff is already having and will continue to have years down the line. Lots of Lichtenstein posters are the same. Infact, all the old-school ephemera is difficult.

Jean-Michel Basquiat ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn, New York โข Graffiti Art , by Whitefish on Mar 23, 2021 17:16:59 GMT 1, Boy and Dog in a Johnnypump was executed by Jean-Michel Basquiat in 1982, which is considered his landmark year. Reflecting on that period in an interview with The New York Times in 1985, Basquiat said: "I had some money, I made the best paintings ever."
Measuring at nearly 14 feet wide and 8 feet high, the painting depicts a skeletal black boy and dog painted in similar style. They're center of the canvas in the spray of an open fire hydrant. A johnny pump is a New York slang term for a fire hydrant that is open in the summer for kids to play in the water. The warm colors suggest a "blazing hot summer landscape."

Worth noting that Banksy's reworking of that painting shares the same dimensions.
