Faile - 10 Ways - Varied Edition of 15, by holden on Oct 17, 2015 10:26:53 GMT 1, Thanks
They don't do this anymore and I suspect it was down to Aiko with these more painterly pieces ?
Theres some fabulous use of colour on these editions of 15 out there, for example Chimp Bunny Boy MEA
If you come across others, please post across on the Faile forum as it would be great to see the full sets for these varied editions

Faile - 10 Ways - Varied Edition of 15, by avec art on Oct 17, 2015 10:33:03 GMT 1, The underpainting makes this such a vibrant piece, I wonder though if the fact that it is only signed by Aiko could impact on the value. It shouldn't do, but this is the art world.

Faile - 10 Ways - Varied Edition of 15, by holden on Oct 17, 2015 10:51:22 GMT 1, As you know Faile is and always was a collective, with Aiko once part of that.
The print is signed 'Faile' but is by the hand of Aiko.
This baby Faile signature is common in the earlier works that Faile put out and it was only after her departure that the signature became consistent, with one of the Patricks tasked with signing. Prior to that it was a mixture of both.
Does it affect the work? Dunno, as you said the art world is fickle. I personally doubt it, but it sure does define a place in time when she was part of the mix and has left her mark on the groups work and direction.
As an aside, I think the loss of Aiko to the group changed the output to a more testosterone driven imagery, a la the Lost in Glimmering Shadows collection

Faile - 10 Ways - Varied Edition of 15, by avec art on Oct 17, 2015 12:29:11 GMT 1, ... I can can see that now. The signature photo is a little small so I didn't actually notice that it say's Faile, I think that it was written by Aiko adds interest to the piece - cool.

It shouldn't do, but this is the art world. Should not affect value. It is a Faile - just an early work. The signature evolved over time to the consistent one it is now.
Great piece (and great price for a buyer) Holden. If you don't have luck selling on the forum I'd suggest Ebay for the biggest exposure. I have also had good results with artnet auctions in the past (it was years ago though). Good luck with the sale and cool piece - a lot of people do not realize how big these Varied Editions are. 50" x 38" is big!

Faile - 10 Ways - Varied Edition of 15, by thesewalls on Oct 22, 2015 12:04:29 GMT 1, I'm curious if anyone would care to elaborate on Faile's place in art history in regards to hand painted multiples. From my perspective, HPM's have increased in popularity, and while most people were running off screen and computer (haha excuse me 'giclee') prints, Faile had their brushes out too. This no doubt contributed to their surge in popularity, but I'm wondering who might have inspired them to create like this? Surely Warhol? Other artists? Scenes? I'm obviously no art historian...how do all these HPM's fit into the big picture?

I have seen only 2 of these huge beasts come up for sale in 10yrs so pretty rare. If i had the wall space i would of snagged this especially seeing the seller lives 30min away. Hope it finds a nice home Holden..

Faile - 10 Ways - Varied Edition of 15, by holden on Oct 22, 2015 22:39:40 GMT 1, mishen - located in Australia or as Billy Connolly calls it, 'Far'.
Harrington FAN - maybe?? price per square inch tho, its a bargain at a dollar 70
@andyroo - thank you. I think these large size hpm's along with the works on key foods are their finest on paper. If you're going to have one, have a big one!
walls - I think they've always led with their print making, exploring various techniques from screen, to laser, to letter press, to replicating the 'torn' street look, to now funky inks. The quality and attention has made them stand out. Whether you like their work is another thing, but since I got the bug back in '07 they were leading the way and 'Johnstonamerica' was photographing this texture that I hadn't seen on other flatter prints.
I think they will have a place in history, maybe it won't be for their art per se, but for their craft. Was fortunate enough to go see the BKLYN museum show and the ceramic work on the temple was amazing. Their work on wood is phenomenal - another level, their bronzes awesome and the canvas work, large colourful and engaging. There are still images I come across that blow me away - just google faile images. I don't see many doing work to that level anymore thats affordable
