Can't see this staying on Ebay for long........., by pezlow on Mar 16, 2008 12:07:40 GMT 1, Great price. Is it me or do you get worried by tom tom provenance nowadays? If he said he had POW provenance I would have pulled the trigger.

Can't see this staying on Ebay for long........., by pw on Mar 16, 2008 14:01:21 GMT 1,
surprised this hasn't been snapped up yet. it seems to me that people are often reluctant to buy buy-it-now items because the mentality is that by their very nature they must be overpriced. but its a good price and i reckon it might sell for more if it was on a no reserve auction.

Can't see this staying on Ebay for long........., by James Smith 77 on Mar 16, 2008 16:32:16 GMT 1, I have a letter from Ben at POW for my fake print, stating why it is fake, etc. It was a love rat. No pics. It was very difficult to tell. It had a REALLY GOOD POW stamp, same brand of paper. the thing that gave it away was a watermark.

If it's a really good copy I not sure if I'd be able to tell? This is one of the main reasons I'm not so keen on buying older prints. Usually a print from the L.A. Series will come with POW provenance which makes me feel much more comfortable.

the way i look at it is if you were spending thousands on a car you'd go and get it checked out before you parted with your hard earned cash. and if you don't know anything about cars (or banksy prints) you'd bring a mate who did. then you won't get ripped off. the only other option is to pay a premium and buy your car from a franchised dealer (or buy your print from a respected gallery like andipa).

Can't see this staying on Ebay for long........., by ryskip on Mar 16, 2008 17:32:19 GMT 1, I agree PW that's why I'm more comfortable buying more recent prints that were only sold through POW and not older prints that were bought through other outlets like Greenleaf Bookshop and therefore provenance isn't so tight.

Can't see this staying on Ebay for long........., by chablis on Mar 16, 2008 18:27:54 GMT 1, I like that, we could have a lynch mob in the wings ready for the dodgy sale. Mind you there would be a permanent mob outside POW,might lower the tone of the area.
Now I like the Pure Evil offering, I''ll expect one the next time I am in the shop. Art in it's own right.
The only way I have avoided being ripped off is by not buying a Banksy second hand. But if my collection is to grow then I will ultimately need to enter the water.

Can't see this staying on Ebay for long........., by pw on Mar 16, 2008 18:51:21 GMT 1, I bought my PULP FICTION from TOMTOM about 2 years ago, I only have a receipt as PROV....... am I FUC*ED or could POW help? Problem is I know TOMTOM wasn't the REGISTERED OWNER, he got it from an old customer who was skint at the time........ I'M NOW VERY WORRIED.... B......
if you bring it in to POW or post it to them they will confirm if its genuine or not. it would help if you had the name of the original owner but you dont have anything to worry about cos people werent making fakes 2 years ago since they werent worth enough back then to make it worthwhile.

Can't see this staying on Ebay for long........., by danvnuk on Mar 16, 2008 21:34:21 GMT 1, I purchased my pride and joy from Tom Tom back in 2004, (no receipt mind - well, a credit card receipt thats faded so much its illegible) But I've checked with POW - and its registered to Tom Tom and I have a credit card statement showing the purchase. I'm happy the provenance is pretty much watertight.
So, each of these prints need to be judged individually, I don't think the fact a print has Tom Tom receipts means its dodgy in any way - but, you should trust your instincts, check that the print number is registered to who it should be with POW, is there corroborating evidence like credit card statements etc etc....
At the end of the day - if your spending the sort of cash one of the earlier prints fetches, I feel the suggestion that the seller meets you to exchange at POW is a bloody good one.
If it feels dodgy - it probably is.
Of course - I admit, I have a vested interest - but as a lot of the early prints were sold through Tom Tom etc, people have to be realistic.

Can't see this staying on Ebay for long........., by BONGO on Mar 17, 2008 11:35:40 GMT 1, BONGO ADVISES CAUTION, BUT DO NOT GO OVER THE TOP
AS BONGO MENTIONED, ON AN EARLIER THREAD, IT IS NOT DIFFICULT TO SUPPLY BOGUS PROV FROM GALLERY THAT NO LONGER EXISTS
INDEED, BONGO HAS 2004 DATED TOM TOM PROV SHEET CONFIRMING THAT A PRINT IS GENUINE, BUT NOT NAMING THE PRINT OR EDITION NUMBER ITSELF
ONE GENUINE PAPER TRAIL WITH PROV AND A HANDFUL OF OVERRUN PRINTS NOW BEGINS TO0 MAKE FINANCIAL SENSE.
IT IS NOT DIFFICULT TO SELL 5 PRINTS WITH THE SAME EDITION NUMBER & PAPERWORK VIA EBAY AND UNLESS THE NEW OWNERS FIND OUT THEY ARE HOLDING THE SAME NUMBER AS 4 OTHERS, THEN IT IS EASY MONEY

Can't see this staying on Ebay for long........., by stender on Mar 17, 2008 13:18:43 GMT 1, I'm in the process of buying a print from here. The seller says he is the original owner and it was bought from POW. What Should I be checking? Do I get the print number and call POW to confirm owner? (Are they ok with that?) And what's to stop that person selling lots of the same print and same number? Apart from POW wondering why they are confirming the owner 300 times this month on the same print?

And when they reply confirming (If the name and number match on their database) that'll act as your PROVENANCE.
