*Please HELP*- Robbed by Banksy seller-Barcode, by borisopold on Nov 12, 2015 10:45:20 GMT 1, Hello to all Banksy and street art fans.
A few weeks ago me and my friend have bought The Barcode print of Banksy.
We bought the print from Zac James Fletcher from Manchester (Rochdale). He seemed to be a professional art seller, he has provided us with his driver licence and a copy of his bank card (I would like to attested, if I can). We transferred him a deposit directly to his bank account (3600gbp as a deposit). Two weeks ago we received a cheap fake copy of this print. He ensured us that he has sent this print by mistake and will refund the money. Since then we didn't hear back from him.
The problem is that we are living in Sydney. For now we have opened an investigation with our bank.
Let us know if someone of you has been in the same or similar situation or maybe you even met him.
To warn you we attached a copy of his photo ID. Legal action will be seeded if a solution to this problem is not gonna be sorted out.
Please give us any tips or advises, don't let this things happen in the street art word.

No photo ID attached, but that's unimportant for this platform.
In parallel with the investigation through your bank, report the fraud immediately to your local police station in Sydney. They may deal with the matter directly or refer you to a specialised task force that handles fraud. You should go with all the evidence available, including:
- copies of Fletcher's driver's licence and bank card;
- his UK bank details;
- any physical address, email address and telephone details he provided you with;
- any relevant email or physical correspondence with Fletcher; and
- the fake print, if it's still in your possession.
Given the sum involved, the police in your country should take the case seriously. It is they who will liaise if necessary with the relevant police force or unit in the UK.

I found his ad on gumtree. After we start conversation trough emails. And then on Whats up. He was sending me pictures which Banksy he has for sale and proofs (CoA, invoices from post delivery) also he reportedly selling Banksy's trough auction (ex. Julien's Auctions).
Is here anyone from Manchester who is able to help us?
I spoke already with my bank also I have recommended from scamwatch.com.au to contact UK police. (Iv got all communication from scratch+pictures of original Barcode which I should receive)
Its stressful situation and I wouldn't think about it that someone is not fear to try steal 3600GBP. He was selling this print for 7000gbp. And deal supposed be once he will get money and I print. I will send rest of money.

I hope you can get that back through the fraud department of your bank, the fact he's admitted he sent the 'wrong one' and would refund should be enough to initiate a clawback. A lesson to always ask for pictures of the actual print/coa and to double check with pest control that ownership details match. Good luck!

No, the initial step is for the victim to report the crime to the police in the victim's own jurisdiction (not the jurisdiction of the perpetrator).
Go to your local police station in Sydney, and report the fraud there. Consider that your priority.

I sent them onto PestControl who immediately replied saying the COA was fake. They were then going to go after him I thought.

I have bought off gumtree before. However I think you should only buy or sale on gumtree in the following
1. If you can go and visit and pick up the print in person.
2. If a close friend or family can pick up the print or inspect in person.(if you are abroad)
3. Transactions always take place after inspection of print, and you are happy. Walk to the Bank together and wire the money there and then.
4. Only do step 3 if you are 100% happy with the print and the person you are dealing with. If not walk away, it is not worth it.
Forum members - would never call out anyone if I didn't think it would only be of value to others, But I had an issue with (peterb80@aol.com) beware of this chap as well. Not one to trust.
I really hope you get this sorted out guys.

My lady got very frantic over an 'Amazing London Flat' for rent about 6 months ago. She was emailing with the lister back and forth and he was requesting ID and references.
When she forwarded me the email, it all smelled fishy and luckily i stepped in before she sent anything as it was a total Gumtree scam.

I’ve also been ripped off. It’s a terrible feeling. Stick to buying from galleries until you get more comfortable with the risks buying direct.
