Is it a bad time to buy a Banksy?, by singyart on Nov 13, 2015 17:22:34 GMT 1, What's people's thoughts on buying Banksy prints at the moment. Do you think it's a bad time to buy and that prices are going to crash or do you think prices will keep on rising like they have been?

Is it a bad time to buy a Banksy?, by Aza on Nov 13, 2015 17:51:54 GMT 1, Who knows? People have always been waiting for prices to drop before buying, but they just keep going up. If you want one and are happy to pay the cost, buy it now. Maybe in a few years you will be wishing you had, I always am haha.

NEWSFLASH There seems to be quite a bit more Banksy sales on this board than usual, and prices still seem to be on the rise, although it looks like the bottom has fallen out of the Laugh Now market, with sellers now letting the unsigned prints go at cost

Is it a bad time to buy a Banksy?, by tone on Nov 14, 2015 5:52:23 GMT 1, Been a steady rise can't see a pause in price increases unless banksy starts releasing multiple substandard prints or economy tanks worse then it already has. If your purchasing for an investment have the understanding that you have a good chance of loosing money. Better to put your money into something safe, but if your buying because you like the art go for it...

Definitely a bad time.
And at the end of the day - it's only paper.

Stood in yesterdays newspaper in Norway that the prices on luxury apartments in London had started falling, should we northerners take that with a pinch of salt? Maybe it's just the most excpencable ones, don't know the London market to well

Is it a bad time to buy a Banksy?, by The Silence on Nov 14, 2015 15:38:08 GMT 1, There have been a large number of posts about the value of banksy. It's so hard to tell. Are they slightly overpriced - almost certainly. Will they keep going up - probably for a while. Will they always hold their value - maybe not. There are plenty of artists who've had big value increases in the past who then disappeared. The real concern about investing in an artist who's still alive is that they are still alive. If his identity is revealed (officially) or something else happens (many things can reduce an artists value) then the value could possibly be reduced.
I agree with those who've said buy now if you can afford it and you love it. Then ride out whatever happens with a piece you really love. Do think about whether you'd love it if it wasn't worth anything. If the answer is yes then go for it. At least you'll have a fun story.

Is it a bad time to buy a Banksy?, by bellaire on Nov 24, 2015 17:26:43 GMT 1, Christmas is always a strange market to sell I think. Banksy was perceived in the market by a large public audience. I think as owning this category by being fist to the market will always keep him in high regard. However! as member (the silence) mentioned, he is still alive and as he is one of the few artists that keeps his identity private. That could determine if the prices going up/ down in the long run. But I think he will continue to grow and you will see a good ROI on his work for a while.

Is it a bad time to buy a Banksy?, by Trevorm on Nov 29, 2015 14:47:52 GMT 1, No. Just coming up to Christmas there'll be one or two potential sellers tipped over the shall I/ shan't I edge to assist the old credit card problem. Similarly there's the January half yearly payment to HM Revenue and Customs that certain of us self employed and free lancers have to find.
There's also my mate, Kevin. The Mrs decided that they should have one of them posh wood burners. The only place it could go was directly under the prime position occupied by his TW. The result ...... The Turf War has to go. I reckon that this scenario is being played out in lots of places where the curse of the high end wood burning stove is being introduced by members of the Art Police.
If anybody's interested in having a look at Kev's new wood burner or the TW let me know and I can email a pic. He tells me that as it's Black Friday week end he'll let it (the TW) go for about half price

Is it a bad time to buy a Banksy?, by Deleted on Jan 28, 2016 22:54:55 GMT 1, The Banksy market to me is unrecognisable to me recently. The demand for his work is unbelievable. I just looked on eBay and Phillips. Up to last year I had a pretty good hold on prices. Then Dismaland happened (which was amazing) and even more information was available about pricing direct from POW, which again is unrecognisable. I don't blame POW at all for their pricing of new print works by the artist. Some of the more recent ones such as purple, gold, silver GWB, Dumbo etc have been stunning and in my eyes worth every penny. In fact buyers of those, despite their high prices (if they decide to sell) will be able to pick up something even more interesting the way prices are going. I know a discussion on price and the time to buy a Banksy is a little bad taste and this is not intended to hype even further (not needed), but it is the reality really of our love for his work. If you want a piece for your collection then unfortunately they aint 250 quid anymore. I remember being able to purchase Banksy prints including APs at my leisure from POW years ago. Well, 2005 anyway - Didn't buy enough . I still have a decent collection of prints that I purchased back then and more recently. Some have sold over the years, however, I still have a couple of really 'special' ones hanging on my walls. I recently thought about selling some to fund a new purchase, but even then the seller is in a position where the avenues of sale are just as complicated. Do you sell to a gallery and risk being done over. Not all galleries!!!! Maybe just the bedroom ones... Do you post on a forum and risk a member banging it around town as their own piece for sale? Who knows. I know there are some serious buyers on this forum. Anyway, I don't even know what I'm trying to say. Im happy that Banksy hasn't released a print via the usual routes since CYW. That queue was fucking madness and the artist was kind enough to run an extra run for some. I think that caused some serious tensions. Dismaland, Palestine, BOTI, don't come cheap. If POW sell work for 35k plus good one them, as long as Banksy keeps pushing the envelope and giving MASSIVE chunks to fellow artists such as CANs, or charities, or human rights campaigns, then I for one am for it!

Thoughts on the following.
You want to buy a b from yonks back.
You buy it from pow from the consigned b , pile.
Seller takes a cut , pow takes a cut and the buyer has a lighter bank account and perhaps a smile. ( full prov etc of course they'd not touch anything else , right , risk of scam = less...)
Will this ever happen , any point ?
Thoughts from .. You people ?
